This site's traffic has exploded over the past two weeks, and things haven't been very organized. So over the next few days, there's going to be a major overhaul of how the site is run -- we'll be addings FAQs, writing the unwritten rules, posting stickies, adding boards, etc.

So if you have any ideas for the site, now's the best time to talk about them. Any discussion is welcome.

Current ideas include:
- adding boards (toys, projects, games, any others?)
- making more themes (a Rainbow theme is long overdue)
- what else?

A few more mods, maybe a theme in the style of each main pony.

As for boards, maybe a board dedicated to gaming, one where people can talk about their life however non-pony related the happenings are perhaps.

And not to sound like a self important nightmare, I would volunteer to be a mod if needed. This place has become my new Reddit. I've been on here all day today and yesterday, so I have a lot of time to spare. Just food for thought *^_^*

Can someone explain what the hell the "currently 100 unique user posts" means?

is it 100 posters or 100 new posts from "unique" people?

Not to be a neighsayer, but be careful not to make too many boards. If you fragment things too far it creates cliques and makes too many threads unseen when ponies stay within the confines of one or two of the boards.

RE: more mods - I've honestly been pleased with the moderation so far, but maybe I've missed some things other people have seen. Objectionable content is usually gone in a matter of minutes. I also know how difficult it is to find moderators that can handle their power in a fair and responsible manner.

Truthfully, I'm pretty happy with the way things run now. Great job on this place.

It means 100 different posters :] Lets you know about how many different bronies are on each board, of course this doesnt include lurkers that have never posted before

550 odd posters on general then :s

number has drastically gone up in the last two weeks.

I'd definitely like to see a section dedicated to toys and other FiM merchandise to allow us to discuss the ones currently out there as well as how-to threads for customization.

Perhaps a section for Shippers? That way those who are uncomfortable to the idea won't have to be exposed to it while those who are into it have a place to express their views and show their pictures?
>> No. 487
I agree with more mods, but i like the quaint-ness of the website. I second this motion >>481. i also still agree with some new boards. heres an idea, maybe the ponies we make could be a board, and people can comment on each pony on the pony's thread. Of course its just an open opinion and u dont have to do it. :3
>> No. 488
Personally i like the number of mods. i myself haven't seen anything too bad on this chan so far, so i think that the current mods are doing their jobs well, and we dont really need any more at this time.

Also i think that 2 or 3 more boards couldn't hurt, maybe 1 for toys, 1 for games, and maybe a music board would be nice.

It's also a nice to have a place to see who's recently joined, what their interests are, etc. I think it encourages people to be an active part of the community, and generally makes them feel welcome.

>>484
...but I see what you're saying in that it's kind of...bromidic(?) It's a single-purpose board that doesn't really generate much content other than intros. I'd suggest that it be broadened into a general socializing board, that way it could at least facilitate some discussion threads or whatever. Also, it might be a nice place to stick all those gamertag/ASL/personal interest threads.

Also, I just want to say that I find it very reassuring that the Mods are taking such an interest in this community's development, and are even allowing general users to provide feedback. Other chans aren't so lucky to have as great a staff as we do.

Thank you for the kind words. This place is as much yours as it is ours and we really want it to flourish so we're trying to take as many cues from the userbase as we can in order to make it meet your needs. We've all been working really hard to keep this place running smoothly, but the truth is Ponychan wouldn't be Ponychan without all you bronies showing up and contributing; for that, we're indebted to you.

I can't speak for the rest of the staff, but trying to moderate a chan is a totally new experience for me, and I'm trying to do my best. I know what it's like to be a regular brony on ponychan: I was added in the second round of mod applications only a week or two ago, so I like to think I understand what it's like to be on your side of the curtain, so to speak. Even though I have the power and responsibilities of a mod, I still feel like a regular brony, just one that finally has the power to effect real change on the boards and one who can actually stop spammers and parasprites. I'll try my hardest to never stop seeing my job in that light.

So, from this mod, to the rest of the bronies that have shown up, made OC, commented, and poured their hearts into this chan: thank you. Thank you so much for contributing. Whenever you post, it makes the time and energy I've invested in this place a little more justified in my mind. I really hope every one of you will grow to love this place as much as I do.

>> No. 516
Just my two cents, just about everything I could think of has already been said. More boards would probably be an overkill now, though a /draw/ wouldn't really hurt. (I like a slighltly too fast board more than a slow!) But I suggest a clarification on every board on what content should be posted where. I see a lot of threads that imho could fit on another board.

I also agree that /hi/ isn't any good, but that's probably because I'm finnish and smalltalk and idle chitchat just isn't my style.

Then the wordfilters, sometimes they derp it! That's really funny actually, more of this please!

The Mods have been awesome! I actually enjoyed my posting ban and spent it getting things I've should have done weeks ago done and feel like alive again. The first time I've actually "did my time" instead of evading it. Still not regretting what I posted though, it was something I just had to get out of the system. I'll do something similar again someday but I'll try making it so that it'll make everypony happy.

I had an idea, not sure how well it will be received though, how about a pony project board? A place to post about a pony related hobby/craft/business venture/what have you that you are working on and maybe get advice or start collaborative projects, kind of like art only for non-drawn stuff.

also, I'm not exactly sure if /hi/ should be deleted or not, because on one hand it does kind of help to foster a different attitude than "we are the anonymous ponies, hurpdy derpdy doo i parasprite u", but on the other it's kind of intimidating for shy ponies like myself and kind of makes me feel like I have to post there and make a long introduction (which I am bad at) before using a name.

From my experience, /hi/ has been really effective. It gets a lot of traffic and helps new bronies feel welcome to the chan. On the other hoof, the entire board does kinda favor nameponies over anonponies, after all, how can one introduce themselves anonymously?
>> No. 542

I second the idea of a games board. That could be interesting.

>>541
You _can_ introduce yourself with a name but still post anonymously and only use name when you feel it's needed. No pony forces anypony to put your name in the namefield on everypost. Usually the identity of the poster doesn't actually matter as much as the content of the post.
>> No. 547
>>541
to me it isn't the using a name that is the issue, it's the feeling that I have to go there and make a long post in order to be accepted if I want to use a name...
>> No. 550
>>543
Of course. What I'm saying though is that anonponies might feel obligated to post with a name on /hi/. But of course I've been a trip pony since day 1, so what do I know? :) If anonponies like yourself don't feel that way, then I see no reason to get rid of /hi/.

>>547
I'm sorry you feel that way :( It's completely not true though, I never even introduced myself on /hi/, I just started posting with a name.

I'm sorry you feel that way... I know I've been trying to do my best to make even the anons welcome, and try and reassure them that a name is NOT needed

>>547
I hadnt thought about this... I dont really think it's intended that you must post in /hi/ in order to be accepted, and a lot of the posts I see are from people who have been around for a little while...

maybe we need a sticky in there addressing some of these things... I for one dont want people to feel forced into anything or have them be uncomfortable =(

Since 4chan, even /co/ has started banning bronies, I think the addition of a /talk/ board or something would be good, where people could talk about more general stuff other than just ponies.

Hi there, I'm a brony from the US but I'm living in Japan right now...there's roughly a 13 hour time difference between where I am and the US. If you'd like someone to be on board as a mod or anything to help out with this website, I'd be more than happy to volunteer my time.

I'm currently in the US Navy, though, so sometimes I'm out to sea and it's a little hard to get a wi-fi connection. If you'd like to talk to me about it more I can get you my email address and we can chat about it that way.

I truly would like to help out!

>> No. 579
A real quick update:
- We'll be keeping /hi/ around, in one form or another, and I'll add a sticky to address some of the concerns mentioned here
- Looks like everypony likes the idea of toys, projects, and games boards, so those are all in.
- I added oekaki to /art/ a few days ago and haven't gotten any complaints about it, so /draw/ is scrapped.
>> No. 585
To add to the topid of the /hi/ board.
I just came to this board today and i really dont want to use a name or anything like that. however just the very existance of an introduction board is enough to make me think: "hmm, maybe i have to come up with a name or something as it seems most posters use a name and theres even a board specificly for introducing and whats the use of introducing if you dont have a name?"

personally i dont like the idea of an introduction board on a site where you can be anonymous as it does put pressure on visitors to start using a name.
>> No. 592
The idea of a /hi/ board seems superfluous to me. Did we need a separate board or thread for people to "introduce" themselves on /co/ or /b/? No, they just started posting when they felt like it and the traffic still mushroomed to its current state. I think /hi/ at best does little for the site and at worst encourages name/tripponying and cliqueing on an anonymous board.

I'm guessing I'm expecting the wrong things from /fic/, but I'd appreciate it being easier to find stories to read rather than discussions about them.

I'd suggest making threads be started with a story and focus on that, but I don't know if such a restriction would go well on this type of board. (I know most fiction sections on my other haunts work like this, but my "other haunts" aren't chan boards.)
>> No. 625

personally I wouldn't use an irc channel for "/b/ronies" just because I don't like being associated with /b/, also I think it would be better to have one for this site so we wouldn't have to feel associated with only the /b/ or /co/ communities, when I go to 4chan I actually don't go to either of those places, I actually found out about the whole pony thing from a freind.
