I actually learned about Ponychan through FiMChan, when they were considering a merger. I hung out there when /co/ (and pretty much all of 4chan) banned ponies, but after I discovered Ponychan and realized how active it was I migrated here. This is now my primary source for Pony discussions.

This year I've learned that even the Internet is indeed capable of kindness, love and friendship. Even through all of our trials and tribulations, this is still truly one of the most magical and wonderful places on the Internet.

This wonderful community has managed to do something amazing that makes me smile and even laugh every single day. I've been involved in other fandoms for over 15 years, but I would be lucky to see anything to laugh or smile over a week, or even months at a time.

Thank you, Ponychan and all of MLP:FIM fandom for touching my heart, mind and soul. I've learned that my innocence and wonder was never dead, but only in hiding. And I've learned I missed it dearly.

I showed up here in August and I love this site. I regular /arch/ a lot but now I'm starting to look into other boards. I learned from this site is that people are always coming to /arch/ to get their questions answered and I should always help them, not parasprite them. I was new once and came here to answer my questions and the people here helped me without even calling me a newfoal. I should now pay it foreward and help newponies all the same. Even if I have to explain that ponies are not carnivores just because there was a ham sandwich for the millionth time. (It's obviously tofu).

You are a fictional character, thus the odds of you getting a letter from me are basically zero. So instead I choose to call reference to this fact, thus making this post totally meta, and address Ponychan directly. Why am I even writing this part.

Dear Ponychan,

I'm not going to come in here and talk about how My Little Pony changed my life...because the fact is, it didn't. While I've embraced the creative aspect of the show as evidenced by the TextEdit doc currently open on my computer containing the beginning of my first ever attempt at fan fiction, I can safely say that the show hasn't changed me as a person.

But I will say this - I've never seen a community quite like you guys.

There are negatives, of course. There are ALWAYS negatives in a community. But this is one of the rare cases of a community where the positives far, far outweigh the negatives. It's a community who aren't afraid to admit that quality has no limit, whether it be marketing, age, of subject matter. It's a community that, primarily, exists to simply have fun with a good show. It's a community that has brought together incredibly talented people...writiers, artists, musicians, sculptors, etc...who otherwise would not have had the inspiration, the ideas, or in some cases even the courage to showcase their amazing work. It's a community that can create rich, detailed backstories and entire character maps based on, say, the fact that a pony was seen playing a cello for all of 15 seconds.

So, yeah. This is a pretty amazing community, even with the few negatives there are. Happy birthday, Ponychan. Here's to a site that embraces creativity, fun, and most importantly, Pastel Pigmented Ponies.

Never change ponychan

I only found and fell in love with FiM about 6 months ago in August, then discovered Ponychan several months ago... And I've hardly been coming here for some time, focusing more on my social/BlazBlue forum and gaming than anything else.

But... I do enjoy what I see when I am here, and wish I spent more time hanging around. I love ponies and friendship, and I love talking about them, so maybe I'll start coming here more often.

In any case, I have to congratulate Ponychan on its first birthday. So... Happy birthday! I hope to see more of you, PC.

People are odd, and that includes yourself sometimes. I came here with ill intent, yet here I am just another regular
posting on a board about ponies for inordinate amounts of time.

As time goes on, it's easy to find yourself mellowing out in a lot of ways. Hate turning to dislike, dislike turning to ambivalence and acceptance.


I've met a lot of people here, for better or worse, and you can't help but feel that good or bad, the place wouldn't be the same without them. The ragers, the haters, the flank-holes, the parasprites, the paragons, the Fluttershys, the Pinkie Pies, the Twilights.

Every single person who posts is a cumulative whole on this board, and despite its changes in the past 6 months, I find myself lingering and smiling. Through the raging, the anger, the shit-storms, the fights, there are always things that make me smile.

Creativity, friendship, jokes, 'epic threads', well thought out replies, admittance, acceptance, and change.

For all the things that we may dislike, this board is the way it is, and I love it.

I know not everyone on here believes in love and tolerance as a credo, and views it as something which was a good method of defence in the early days, and is no longer needed now the pony fandom essentially has its own internet.

But the funny thing is that, whether people believe in it or now, this is generally a way more pleasant corner of the internet than most, and that's one of my favourite things about it.

Call it what you want, but the fact that everyone wants this to be a friendly place to come to is one of the things which keeps me coming back to it.

I've never been on 4chan, but even more theoretically grown-up sites tire me out these days, because most communities I've seen on the internet are way more than negative than this.

And the good thing is that there are disagreements on all sorts of things, but more of the time, people manage to stay civil.

From where I'm sitting, I can see my DVD of Up, which came from a fellow ponychan user, during the big /arch/ gift exchange in December. Which was lovely. I spent way too much money on people I will never meet, and it was a lot of fun.

So bonne anniversaire, ponychan. You do good work.

I've been here since at least September but lurked Anonymously during August when I first started watching the show.

I remember starting out posting as Rarity and I wanted to be like Bags Seriously. I'm serious. and all the other posters I thought were cool, and that's what it was like for the first few weeks here.

Then I started to realize how much I just enjoyed being here, discussing the show with people I didn't even know, laughing and bonding over everything. The community became more important than the show itself as I realized how fun it was just knowing all the different types of people we have here.

It's sad to see people that you know leave the site or to see them go through emotional problems, but the best thing you can do is be there for them when they need you.

I'm so glad that I got to meet all of you, and I'm blessed to be in such great, loving company.

Ponychan has given me a lot in the way of this fandom. Let's look at just a few of those things:

1. It gave me a place where I could openly chat about one of my favorite shows without fear of parasprites or anti-bronies (for the most part).

2. Through all of the speculation and discussion, It allowed me to see the the show through a slightly different set of eyes, one that other viewers might not have.

3. It gave me awesome friends that I probably would never have met otherwise.

4. It gave me an awesome way to kill time when I'm bored or don't want to do homework (lol).

But most importantly...

5. It gave me a place where i could really get in touch with this awesome community. Without Ponychan, I don't know how long I would have been a part of it all.

In other words, thank you, Ponychan. Despite your shortcomings, you are still the best pony place on the net.

Oh wow. This site has been up for a year? That's awesome. I hope it stays up for another year. The time I've spent on this board was amazing.

I came here early September. Yeah, I was pretty late compared to most of the people here, didn't get in with the summer rush of people that have seemed to have survived to become well known regulars here. I've been here for 5 months, but I don't know if I can call myself a "regular." Not yet. I lurk more than I post, and when I do post, it's usually tl;dr or something that contributes nothing to the conversation. I hope to change this in the near future, and socialize more with all you fine folks.

Despite my lack of time here compared to many, I think this has been the best couple of months of my life (yes, I know. Sort of pathetic, right?) I just love the caring community and the fun times that were had. Everyone seems to have an inexplicable unconditional love for each other, that baffles me, because when I place you all next to the people I interact with every day, it seems like a big family more than a group of pony lovers. I hope to become a major part of it one day and help out the community in any way I can. I've only been here a short amount of time, but I'll stick to this place until the end, let's hope that end far away.

At any rate, happy first birthday Ponychan. Now let's strive for a second one.

I learned in my (not so) long tenure at ponychan that it is a wonderful place. There are many people here and so many conflicting ideas, and it is wonderful to have this sort of knowledge at our hands. We may abuse each other or argue with each other, but, at the end of the day, I know I learned that civility is one of our greatest weapons against ignorance and that every ban is just a lesson to make us better people if we use them that way.

I've learned that anyone can be good or bad. Just because I've got trolled a few times doesn't mean that everyone is a parasprite, and I should always give a chance to others to trust them. There will be always a place for kindness and sharing no matter how harsh the world is.

While I can honestly say that My Little Pony has been a wonderful influence on my life- I've largely recovered from a four-year-long depression thanks to the magic of friendship- Ponychan is... A different matter altogether. See, I only really came here around late November, and even then, I mostly lurk, poking my head out whenever (often to no avail. Bronies gonna brony). Still, it's a nice place once you get used to it, and it's a great way to kill an afternoon.

Over the years I have been fan of many things, but all of the other "fandoms" I have visited... No, scratch that, you can't call them fandoms even with quotation marks. ...have been complete horseapples. All that hate and dislike, they were horrible.

My friend at the university told me about FiM sometime between last September and October, and believe it or not, I hadn't heard one word of it or bronies before that. I was amazed about how wonderful show it was. No need to tell anyone of you how wonderful, you know it already. But that was nothing in comparison when I found out about the Brony Community, and especially Ponychan.

At first I was hesitant to come here, because I'm no fan of 4chan, and thought this place might be like it with different name. But I learned soon that I was wrong. So very wrong. Everypony here are so friendly, loving and tolerating. Even when I came here for the very first time, everyone treated me with respect and like I was one of them. Looking back, I was. That is one of the things that makes this community so great. No matter if you are a veteran or a new pony, you will be treated with same love and kindness.

The show teached me about love and tolerance, and this community showed them to me in action.

The show teached me how to laugh, smile and be happy again, and this community gave me a place to share that joy.

The show showed me the most wonderful world of Equestria, and this community expanded it in all the ways and directions possible.

The show gave me canon, and this community gave me fanon.

There aren't enough words to tell you how much this community means to me, MLP:FiM and Bronies are The Best Thing that has ever happened to me.

So, it all comes back to one, the most important lesson.

Friendship is Magic.

I have learned many things over the last year. The first being to step out of my comfort zone, the second to understand that what life throws at you there is always tomorrow..

..and third is this community is one of the best communities on the Internet. I have never been shunned or even looked down upon for saying what I have. I have been around since the site's inception, and have seen the best threads, and some of the worst.

But the one thing that has kept me coming back was the community. It was not hateful, or spiteful, like so many others are on the Internet. Instead, it provided me and so many others a sliver of hope that the world does have some good in it left.

And I found it here, with you all. Happy, Happy Birthday, Ponychan, you have done so much for so many. And may you continue to do so for many years to come.

I found Ponies in /v/ and wanted to check it out. Ponychan was the first site I went to, then I watched every episode up to #6, which is where I came into the fandom in season 1.

I was a lurker who wrote a few parody songs. That never took off. Then I got in a bunch of thread fights about Trixie when a lot of ponies thought the issues in Boast Busters were black and white instead of grey.

Then I made friends and now I poke my nose into everything. I love the artwork and the stories and I have never felt so connected to others in a community like this before.

Ponies made me less cynical, less mean, and less tired of the world. It's weird to feel like a kid and excited to watch a quality cartoon every Saturday morning again.

First i would like to thank you and the mods for all the hard work you put in making ponychan.

I joined ponychan shortly after watching the show in late summer and heard through several places that the fans of this show were as nice and kind as the show was. After a wile of looking on threads i overcame my shyness and decided to give it a try and started to talk on ponychan and was welcomed with open arms (and hugs).

This is the first fandom that I’ve ever seen to do just that, most of the time older fans think that there above everyone and then treat newer fans like dirt, but not us.

I've learned a lot in the past year.
One of the best things has been that Friendship is prehensile...I know it's that joke again. But actually it can be taken literally too.

Through the friendship experienced on this board many have been able to get a "grasp" on many potentially bad situations and "turn them" around. Whether just as a means to be cheered up from a depression or in some cases saving other bronies lives. The friendship encompasses all.

Other than that I love the over analytical theory crafting that happens here on a daily basis, it's entertaining and healthy for the mind.

This board has a place for all to inhabit, such a variety in population is whats making this board so strong, and the mod team helps to keep this board healthy by keeping the shitstorms, parasprites, and flankholes in check.

This year I've met a whole ton of people that I otherwise would never have known at all, and learned about their hobbies, and even a few games that they play and I now enjoy. I learned that loving, tolerant people aren't that hard to find after all, and that acceptance for personal beliefs religion, politics, etc isn't unheard of on the internet after all.

I've also learned to open up to others a little more easily, though I still have a long way to go. After a childhood of almost nothing but backstabbing "friends," a pony's heart can grow weary, but real friends remind you why you ever opened up at all.

When I first came into the fandom, my interest in it was small. I thought the episodes were okay, and some of the fanfics were cool, but I wasn't crazy about the show. I predicted I'd be over this craze in a few days.

Bronyism has not effected my life outside of the internet all that much, i am happy to be here on ponychan.

I've learned quite a lot of things from visiting this website. Actually, probably the biggest thing I learned was how doing something so small can result in a noticeable change in your life. Who knew that searching "yay" in Youtube would lead me to countless hours of entertainment? If I didn't do something small like that, chances are, I wouldn't be here to this day.

I've also learned that I should actually try something if I'm interested in it. I could've been on this website from the get-go, since I wasn't really fazed by the whole "girly" look of My Little Pony. However, I instead was a late bloomer, and joined the fandom halfway through August. I wish I could've seen this website and fandom grow... I had the chance to, but I missed it. Oh well!

Oh, and I guess you'll meet the strangest of friends in the strangest of places. When I first came to /arch/, everyone looked like a...well, a jerk. I didn't really think I'd like to hang out in a place like this. However, I was lead to a stream for the show, where the viewers sit back and relax with each other and ponies. If it wasn't for the friendly atmosphere of the stream, I doubt I'd be on the website to this day. Thanks, Late Night Ponies. Thanks. I never would've thought I'd actually make friends with anyone on here, but apparently I did.

Relatively late to the fold here; I started posting here in August, about a month and a half after discovering and falling in love with this show. /pic/ was great for helping me build my fledgling pony folder, and making the switch to /arch/ was great too. Definitely made waiting for Season 2 to start that much cooler. Not gonna say 20% cooler, not gonna say 20% cooler... Read a couple shitty fanfics along the way, argued about best pony, b'awwed and d'awwed in /pic/, trawled through /arch/, all the standard stuff.

But best of all, I was there for all the late-summer plot derails and silliness that led to the first /Pony/ After Dark thread in September, and I've posted there regularly ever since. Made some good friends, had some cool conversations, and had a blast the whole way.

So Ponychan, as cool as all of you are, I'mma give a shout-out to my /P/AD buddies. You all know who you are. Thanks so much for making the last few months a ton of fun, even with all your goofiness.

This is the website I go to when I am depressed. Helps every time.

Well, I guess this place was only around for about a month before I joined.

Happy Birthday, Ponychan!

Once upon a time in the magical land of 4Chan, there was a group of people, eagerly awaiting to see what Faust has done with My Little Pony. To their surprise it was a very unique show, /co/ became love again, the /co/mrades relished and played in the episode days Lauren brought forth.
But as time went on people were starting to spread it to other boards to see the reaction of others and /tg/ joined with /co/ and /b/ started their own pony threads. /b/ was starting to spam their pony threads with reactions images and no show discussion. One fateful day /b/ refused to lower the spam and join with /co/. the /b/unnies and other half of /b/ were both just as stubborn, except the /b/unnies went with a positive paraspriting where you could talk to them, but not get anything done, whereas /b/ tried the negative 'paraspriting' with no effect, even if /b/ knew very well they were not able to parasprite anymore.
A rogue mod went on a campaign to ban every single pony poster, including /co/. The mod then linked the other half of /b/ to the old ponychan which got shut down.
The pony posters were banned for a few days and /co/ and /b/ finally merged on the new Ponychan.
/Co/ and a few /b/unnies were put off a little by the self-congratulating in one thread, which spread and just got worse as time passed.
In March and April were the decent days of Ponychan, even if /co/ knew that the fandom went bananas since February.
As time went on Reddit and many other medias started latching on to the show and love and tolerance was mistaken as unconditional love and acceptance of everyone, which prompted a lot of people to turn off their social filter.
/co/ tried to go against the stereotype and help Lauren prove that girl stuff doesn't have to lame, unfortunately a lot of creepy and obnoxious people got in because of the message spread by /b/ of L&T, thus a stereotype was created for the bronies. Now to this very day you'll find this fandom, made out of all the fandoms in the world, exploring huge new places of the bottom of the barrel where no fandom has ever dared to venture into.
And yet...redeeming things like bronies for good, many artists, messages of how the show changed people's perspective on life, military fans of the show, are here to try and balance things out.

I love these colorful cartoon equines to death. Like, is this is even possible. They're ridiculous. Been a fan since May last year, it's been a good run!

I'm a relative newcomer to Ponies, having only really discovered a fondness for them since this last December. I, like many males, had express skepticism about how a MLP series could POSSIBLY be anything but tripe and candy for the mind specifically for consumption by little girls.

Boy, was I wrong. FiM is something ... special.

Ever since I broke through the veil, I'm glad I found the fandom. I love everything about being a brony--by and large, it seems as though we're tolerant, patient, accepting, and not judgmental by comparison to other communities I've seen, and that's something to be quite proud of. While the rest of the world is entrenched in cynicism, distrust, hate, greed and violence, the brony community gives me a breath of fresh air, and hope for humanity.

I discovered Ponychan even more recently, and I'm happy I did. Never on an image board have I ever seen such a distinct presence of ... decent human beings BEHAVING decently. I didn't think it was possible on the Internet of all places, but ... there you have it. This fandom is living proof that good people are still out there, and I'm happy to be part of that community.

Hopefully, I have a lot more experiences that make me proud to be a brony in the future! So far so good.

I learned back in September '11 not to have the same IP address as a spambot over at 4chan cuz they do not listen to anyone's appeals regardless of how reasonable, legitimate, and well-thought-out they are. That or I just can't behave myself. At the same time someone suggested FiMchan but that place was a mess, this place is too until I find a thread to settle on which seems never to be active. Then I feel lonely, then my anxiety issues kick in. My timing's horrible, I always manage to say the wrong thing, runs in the family. but overall I'm happy and should stop digressing and talk about ponies. I got nothing.

Dear Ponychan, I joined this site when it was mentioned in /b/ and /co/ threads about 1 year ago, dang, I remember I made the first post on /g/ (Before the boot), !!Celstia was Orange Blaze (?), they needed mods and Pchan only had like about 50 posters.

Everyone, I am so proud, you all make this a great community.

I love every and single one of you, even if I don't know you.

Not sure what I want to say so incoming stream of consciousness.

Ponychan is my first imageboard. Before it, I would spend my time on small video game forums with small communities. I discovered ponies in mid-May, coinciding with the time I had grown tired of the way forums worked. When I first came to ponychan in early June, I was just another overzealous fanboy intent on getting the world hooked on the show, but the environment on /arch/ changed me for the better. It wasn't like a small forum where every thread was a round-table discussion, actual thought needed to be put into posts, and the people were more honest about what they thought of what you said. I started making sure my posts were of actual quality rather than just an unsupported opinion, I was heavily influenced by other high quality posters at the time like ANOVA and Bags, and, made good friends like Caboozles and Dragon Rage, and I matured the fuck up to deal with both parasprites, which I had never experienced before, and how to deal with frustration online without raging.

Ponychan is probably the most influential site I've been on, since it's where I learned to take a step back and think before hitting enter. Ponychan, and especially /arch/, will always be close to my heart since I feel like it permanently changed the way I act online forever, and where I met friends online whom I could trust just as much as my friends in real life.

From the start, I blindly hated MLP and its fandom. The forum I frequent the most indoctrinated bandwagon hate on everything related to the pastel coloured ponies we all love so much. Mentioning it would get you banned. I naturally stayed away from it; the idea of watching a children's show about small equines was ridiculous, inane and distant.

One friend of mine - one that I don't respect or appreciate enough, not then and not now, one day talked me into watching S1E1-2. Expecting something similar to Strawberry Shortcake, Teletubbies and Avatar I opened Youtube.

Three days later I had watched the first half of S1. The show surprised me in so extremely many ways. Likable characters, adorable artstyle and good writing. Only months later I learned of Ponychan while browsing 4chan's /co/ (comics and cartoons)-board. At first glance, Ponychan seemed bizarre. Boards upon boards of people talking about ponies.

In the start I only visited /chat/. I brought up my depression and transgenderism in one of the many threads there. I posted a few times in a week, but later forgot about it.

As my depression worsened and I spiralled into anxiety and suicidality, MLP helped brightening up my day. So did Ponychan.

My life isn't perfect. But thine small equines, Ponychan and that one friend of mine is making it better every day.
For this I thank you, Ponychan. Thanks for being the welcoming, friendly, accepting people you are.

Yet, I still crave that friendship. Living in a perfect utopia. Having someone to go to. Someone that isn't a website or a swede 100 miles away.

Over this last year, or, more specifically, these last couple months, I have learned a very valuable lesson. I try to keep prejudice out of everything I do, but I should still have less prejudice. People whom I viewed as weird, awkward, stupid, and silly have become smart, funny, clever, intelligent, and caring. When I first heard about MLP, I thought it was just a fad that would die out and people only watched it for the irony. I was horribly wrong. I'm so glad to have come into this community of bronies, most of which inhabit Ponychan. Ponychan has allowed me an outlet about the show, everything I like about it, my ideas, my criticisms, and my excitement. I just turned 18 just 7 minutes ago, and I'm so glad to be on this website that I didn't even think should exist for a community that I despised a year ago.
I have learned to approach everything without prejudice and to give everything a chance, you never know who else did.

This year I have learned to be less shy, and more cheerful. I've learned to be more open to expressing my feelings and looking for help when I need it. I've learned that things happen for a reason, and even though some of my old friends do not talk to me anymore, I have gained new friends who understand me for all I am. If my old friends were my friends today, they wouldn't understand me. My current friends have made me who I am today, and as Rarity puts it, I am the product of them and I should never be ashamed of them. They are oh so wonderful<3 I've learned that the internet can be very loving and caring. I've learned that talking things out really does help, and not to bottle emotions up. I'm beginning to learn to love myself for who I am. I really am unique! If you take my traits and separate them they are not unique, but put them all together and you get a very unique me! I've learned not to be ashamed of who I am. I've learned to search for the light in the darkness so to speak, and how to keep myself cheery and upbeat.

I've learned not to take things so seriously, to not be so sensitive, be positive, and to laugh more. Friendship really is magic<3 I never knew a website on the internet could be so helpful, friendly, caring, and open. I have learned to face my fears, like talking to new people. Whenever I feel alone, I just lurk/post here and it all goes away. A lot of this I have you to thank, Ponychan, so thank you. I haven't posted much here, but when I did it was insightful. I was playing on a TF2 server when i heard about a pony server with a bigger sounds list than the one I frequented. I decided to check it out. It started out subtle with me asking the questions that lead to bronyism("why do you watch the show?", etc.), but soon enough I watched the first couple of episodes. I didn't know so much time had gone by since finding this show (by way of the original bronies). MLP is a secret (but not really guilty) pleasure of mine. It's one of those rare shows that seems to have gotten everything right, so it's naturally enjoyable to watch.

So far, season two has gotten some laughs out of me. I worried that it wouldn't hold-up to season one, but it's been great, so far. Here's to many more years of MLP.

It has now been a year and a day since I discovered this wonderful place, and learned that the internet need not be a locale filled exclusively by hate. I've watched, time and time again, the denizens of Ponychan prove this. They are an odd bunch, but I would gladly be the first to proclaim that that is a good thing.

I may not appear to be a constant within the fandom – my work and my posts are few and far between – but I will always be lurking at the periphery, waiting and watching, until long after the fateful day when we inevitably begin to fade into oblivion.

Though that sad day may be inevitable, I will try my best to ensure that it is delayed. And from what I have seen this past year, I am not alone in that endeavor. Thank you.
