#Digital #Canon #OCs #Gallery #Taking requests #Critique wanted
Hello Ponychan! I'm Kryptchild, but you can call me Krypt if you like to keep it short~

So I'm getting off my duff and making a gallery/artist/thread thing here to help promote myself, maybe take a few critiques and advice, and hopefully make some friends along the way!

I'm gonna post some of my most recent work to start off with.

The rules post said I can post tumblrs and DAs, so here you go!
Tumblrererer: http://kryptchildart.tumblr.com/
DA: http://kryptchild.deviantart.com/

I occasionally do Request livestreams, which I'll be posting notices and links to with at least a day's advance. I love shipping and drawing OCs, so there will be plenty of that.

Anyway, off to the art! ♥

I have a total of 3 OCs, Free Fall is my occasional RP character. Pharm is my blog character, and up at the top of the thread is Kryptfoal, my Self-insert/avatar character.

A fourth might be on the way some day for a more adult theme'd blog. None of that will go here though.

>> No. 115041
>>115038
At least in Gimp, you can create a transparent PNG by adding an "Alpha Channel" onto the original layer and then erasing everything before you start drawing. You can do this by right clicking on the layer on the layer list and picking "Add Alpha Channel".

You could also add a second layer and delete the first one to create the same effect, since the second layer is transparent by default.

I assume that it works the same way with whatever program (Photoshop?) that you are using.

...Since I'm already making a post here, I'll toss in a request, as well. I request a standard Changeling in a maid outfit. She should look embarrassed and self-conscious.

That's very helpful actually! Though it doesn't do me much good right now. Paint Tool Sai is my program of choice, and it doesn't have that capability. I've downloaded and tried gimp before, but I got totally lost in the UI and couldn't find where to set my macros.

After utterly failing to make a simple .gif I threw a hissy fit, uninstalled it, and cried in the corner for an hour before going back to Sai on my hands and knees begging for forgiveness.

I attached an image that is transparent, except for a single pixel in the top left corner (which you can erase when you start drawing). See if you can draw somehting on it and save it (as a png), such that it stays transparent.

OMG these sketches actually came out good! (okay good compared to my usual stuff)

The first three sketches were warmups and sort of tributes to three artists who are pretty heavy inspirations.

Crookedtrees’ Pinkamina blog was actually my first forray into tumblr ever! Lets just say I was hooked. I love the style he used back when he still did the blog, though I do love his more current work (he’s under a new probably secret name).

I’ve always loved just sketch work, and Sadistic-Rarity does some of the best I’ve seen. I freaking LOVE his facial expressions. EVERYTHING that guy does has attitude to it. I can almost FEEL his characters telling me to go f*ck myself, and I love it! ♥ I tried to mimic the way he does eyes, but it didn’t come out quite like I wanted.

The third is my dear friend Joey-Darkmeat. Literally THE biggest inspiration for me to continue art, and the biggest help I could ever ask for. He did a few quick tutorials for me a while ago and they’ve really helped. He’s also an amazingly sweet guy, if not a bit shy.

The bottom three are Pinkie Pie discovering her first Parasprite (I may line and color this one), Soaren being sexy (also might color this one), and me being way too excited about how these turned out.

I’m going to take a short break, then get back to the drawing board. I think tomorrow night might be a good night for requests so keep an ear out!

tl;dr helpful artist tribute and goodish sketches

♥Cheers♥

>>115994
The head looks rather small, which does some odd things to the proportions in general. Princess ponies compensate for this with longer necks and thinner legs and bodies.

The leg overlaps the belly. from this direction, it seems more likely that the belly should overlap the leg.

The muzzle looks rather squared off and blocky, mostly because the bridge of the nose cuts straight across the face, rather than sloping upward. A proper slope adds depth to the face, since it creates a layering effect by overlaping the far eye, and it seems to come forward as it comes down. Without that sense of depth, the face looks flattened and becomes much less appealing. A similar thing happens in the bottom left drawing of >>115669 and in >>115504.

>>115587
The rump and tail are as lit as the forelegs, ears, etc. Given how close the fairy must be to Pinkie's face, since the underside of the forelock is all lit up, I kind of doubt anything other than the head and forelegs would be lit up.

Another reason it seems odd that the tail is well lit: illumination falloff. Picture a sphere with a light source in the middle: the entire inside of the sphere is equally lit. If you made the sphere twice as big, however, it'd have much more surface area, and it would look darker overall since the same amount of light is being spread over a larger area. Now picture that light source next to a wall: The farther you go from the wall, the darker it gets, because the light is "spreading out." (I'm sure I'm making a mockery of the actual physics here).

Now, there's a clear sense of fall off from the middle to the edge of pinkie's face. Based on that, it seems like the intensity of the light would be next to nothing by the time it reaches her tail.

The shadows are somewhat confusing. The forelock is above the sprite, since it's lit from below, and it casts a shadow on the rest of the mane on the back of hte head... which implies that the mane is above the forelock, rather than behind it. The forelock casts a shadow on the ear, making a similar contradiction: The fairy is at the middle of the face, and the forelock is to the side... this implies that if the forelock is casting a shadow on the ear, the ear must be to the side of the forelock rather than behind it.

One thing I will say, though: I love the shadows on the face proper, particularly around the cheeks and where the ear meets the head. Nice sense of direction, and it defines the shape of the shape of the face well.

The problem with lighting is that there are all kinds of logical ways to explain how or why something is lit the way it is... in the end, though, it needs to feel right to the viewer, so there's really no way to break it down by pure logic. But, I digress.

The ears... aright, I know this is a fairly common way to draw animal's ears, but to me they just make absolutely no sense whatsoever, by any stretch of the imagination.

Looking at the two curves in the center, it looks like the sides have been folded in and pinched together. When looking at an ear form an angle, one such curve would make reasonable sense, but not two, and when looking at the ear straight on, neither of them do. The sides of horses ears do sort of fold in, but towards the bottom rather than the top.

The way the inner arcs curve in the opposite direction than the outter edges, rather than following them, makes the ear seem like a pair of fleshy masses pinched together.

Just for comparison, Imma dig up some pics of actual horses... one sec.

Okay, here we go:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:APHA_Mare2.jpg
On this guy the ears pinch together on both sides, but at the bottom rather than on the top. So, compared to this guy, the Y's in the ears of your drawings are upside-down

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Affoltern_-_%27Gest%C3%BCt%27_Unteraffoltern_-_Zehntenhausstrasse_2012-05-13_17-49-05_%28P7000%29.JPG
There's a white edge all the way around the rim of this guy's ear. Rather than drawing two lines along either side, this would be more accurately depicted with one line along the near edge, and some shadow on the inside of the ear. Compare to >>115994, where the two lines make the ear look really thick.

>>116051
>Their request thread sat completely untouched for nearly a month, so I decided to do a little something for them.
Such threads often do... in fact, here in /art/, it's against the rules to make a thread just for a request because the failure rate is so high, and they just clutter up the board.

SOP is to post requests in the thread of an artist who takes them... there's a section in the directory for it.

Speaking of which, your thread's in the general gallery listing, but not the "accepting requests" section.

>I know the right ear looks weird.
That's okay, I've talked enough about ears already. :3

The forelock look weird, because it don't seem to extend all the way across the forehead. Not sure if this was intentional or not.

>General Comments:
The facial expressions and body language are very effective. Your characters show a lot of personality and emotion, without resorting to exaggeration or extremes. That kind of subtlety takes finesse, mad props.

The lineart has a strong sense of volume and solid form... that is, the shapes look 3D. The lighting... not so much, it's kinda flat and arbitrary. If you know what I mean. Regardless, I think solid forms and weak lighting is better looking than weak forms and good lighting, and the lighting is easier to improve anyway. So, between the two, I think you got the better deal. :3

You mentioned backgorunds, here >>115453, and that's pretty much the only major shortcoming to your work. Perspective, landscapes, and room interiors aside, have you done much with set pieces and scenery? Eg: tables and chairs, trees and rocks... not necessarily backgrounds per se, but objects other than the actual characters in a scene. Trying to draw all that kind of stuff within a closed space can be a real pain (EG: characters and furniture within a room), by getting used to drawing the objects alone (eg: just the characters and furniture), you can sort of ease yourself in.

Your work has a great deal of variety: all different kinds of poses and camera shots, it keeps things interesting. This may not seem like a big deal, but trust me, it really is.

At any rate... that's what I got for now, hope it's useful.

>The head looks rather small
Fault of the nature in which I drew it actually... it started as a head shot in a corner, but it came out great so I removed it, re-sized the canvas (a little too big), and stuck it back in to draw the body. Whoops!

>The leg overlaps the belly. from this direction, it seems more likely that the belly should overlap the leg.

Not entirely sure what you meant by that. Did you mean the right leg?

That's pretty interesting, I see what you mean! I actually went back and edited Soaren in that large sketch thing but never posted it, but I see what you mean with Pharm. I'll have to see about adjusting that in future works!

>The rump and tail are as lit as the forelegs, ears, etc. bla bla light stuff

I'll be totally honest... Lighting and shading are totally lost on me. I barely even know what brushes to use for shading, let alone the concept behind it. So far most of what I've been doing is a mock shading method I learned watching Braeburned livestream like, once...

I see what you mean though with her forelock and her rump. I think my problem was I was thinking of the face and hooves as being the foremost parts of her. That and it was such a nice little rump and I didn't want to leave it in the dark.

>The ears... aright, I know this is a fairly common way to draw animal's ears, but to me they just make absolutely no sense whatsoever, by any stretch of the imagination.

Confession time... I've been trying really hard lately to draw ears similar to how SmittyG draws them (love that guys work♥). They're just so big and squishy and cute looking! Sadly though, they're REALLY easy to botch, and I seem to screw it up more than get it right.
I should probably re-consider my ear approach...

>Such threads often do... in fact, here in /art/, it's against the rules to make a thread just for a request because the failure rate is so high, and they just clutter up the board.

Oh no it wasn't here. It was on Canterlot.Com where they have a sub forum in the creativity section specifically for making and taking requests. It's actually pretty balanced!

>Speaking of which, your thread's in the general gallery listing, but not the "accepting requests" section.

I'm rather specific with my requests. I only ever take them on Canterlot.com if they're open to everyone and not geared specifically towards me (it lets me draw them with no obligation of "you said you'd do this! D:").
OR more commonly, I'll do open request livestreams where I take requests from people in the stream to draw it with them watching. I've not done any recently cause of schedule, but when I do I'll post them here. That's why I selected the tag, but didn't put myself in the 'taking requests' gallery.

I mentioned this once before in the thread, but I imagine it's easy to gloss over. If this is against the rules, then I can take the tag out of my thread for now! (how do? D:)

>The forelock look weird, because it don't seem to extend all the way across the forehead. Not sure if this was intentional or not.

Tots intentional!

Hm, I'll have to try that! Maybe a pony and a single piece of furniture like sitting on a skinny fancy stool sipping tea. Thanks!

>Your work has a great deal of variety: all different kinds of poses and camera shots, it keeps things interesting. This may not seem like a big deal, but trust me, it really is.

You say variety, I say inconsistency :P But thank you VERY much for the critique Monsieur White Fox! It's been super helpful!

So I need to work on nose lines to make faces less square, double check my leg overlaps, re-think my ear approach, ACTUALLY LEARN HOW TO SHADE, and practice simple objects to ease into backgrounds! Awesome!

I already knew my lighting/backgrounds were off, but the face thing totally slipped by me till now! Hopefully tonight and this weekend I'll have time to put some of this into practice!

Thanks again White Fox!

♥Cheers!♥

Not on my Mac, I can't... and my (windows) netbook doesn't have a numpad. X3

For other forums, I have wikipedia pages on unicode symbols bookmarked, so I can just copy/paste anything I need. Wasn't sure if it would work here on ponychan, tho
Let's see how many of these go through...
☁☀☝♧☠☣♘

>Is there like, any way I can change that?!
Nope. Not short of remaking your thread completely, which might be a bit drastic.

>Not entirely sure what you meant by that. Did you mean the right leg?
Hmm... This'd be easier to show then tell.

Bam! Redline. Belly is now overlapping leg, Cutie mark has been shifted over and foreshortened.

>Lighting and shading are totally lost on me.
Lighting isn't hard in theory... it's just that there's a looooot of theory to go through. It's totally worth it, tho.

Other than that, you just go with what feels right. To sharpen your sense of what feels right, the only thing I've found that works is drawing from life or photo ref... that part's hard (lighting is easy in theory, hard in practice. People usually think it's the other way around). After enough practice and studies, it starts coming naturally.

>SmittyG
Ah... well, if that's the look you're going for, you're rockin' it pretty hard. :3

This is pretty much a subjective point... I don't like that style of ears because it has absolutely no bearing on reality, but then, that's just my personal preference speaking (me ma taught me life drawing when I was twelve... up until recently, I was better at drawing real horses than My Little Ponies. X3).

>I'm rather specific with my requests. [Insert Stuff Here]
There's nothing against the rules about it per se. it's just that people will assume that's what the tag means, so expect more of it in the future. :3

>I can take the tag out of my thread for now! (how do? D:)
You can't, sorry. I suppose you could remake the thread, start over clean, or maybe ask a mod nicely. They're usually kinda busy, but they're pretty nice guys all around (until you start telling them how to do their job... then the nightmare begins, and the rest of us break out the popcorn).

>Tots intentional!
In that case, you totally pulled it off. Like a boss.

I remember once, someone gave me a two-page deconstruction of what he thought was some terrible looking anatomy... in reality, the character in question was a polymorph, and was in the middle of shape-shifting. It was a comic, too, so there was a three panel before-middle-after sequence. I have no clue how he missed it. He even complimented the anatomy in the before and after panels, so he knew I was capable of doing things The Right Way.

So, basically, that's one of my favourite pitfalls in critique: some times, rules are broken on purpose. The question is, how effectively did the artist break them? :3

>You say variety, I say inconsistency
Inconsistent? Your work is not behaving in a predictable manner? Consternation and uproar!

-The definition of "failure" is an outcome or result that does not match a predetermined expectation.
-Art that is interesting is, generally, considered superior to art that is not interesting.
-When something is highly predictable, it is considered less interesting, i.e.: boring.
-"Success," being the opposite of failure, is an outcome that does meet an expected outcome. IE: it is predictable, and therefore, boring.
-Ergo: in art, success bad, failure good.

This is also why artists have an inalienable right to do things they're not supposed to do, whether that's scathing political satire, dadaism/cubism/etc., or disco music.

If you're doin' it right, you're doin' it wrong. :3

>the face thing totally slipped by me till now!
And that, right there, is exactly what good critique is all about... most of the time, people are competent enough to fix their own problems, but they have to be aware of them first. Second of my favourite pitfalls of critique: an artists skill level is not an indication of their overall intelligence and competency.

>ACTUALLY LEARN HOW TO SHADE, and practice simple objects to ease into backgrounds
Both at once, even: objects like sofas and boulders are much simpler to shade than, say, complete characters. Again, doing the simple stuff first will give you a familiarity with it, which makes the full-scale stuff easier to break into.

I think people tend to skip doing simple applications of stuff like perspective and lighting, because the theory seems so straight-forwarde simple. Easy-peasy. So they jump into full-scale stuff, and hit a brick wall. They know enough to get themselves into trouble, but not enough to get themselves out.

Thing is, even if something is simple when you read it, it still takes a little practice to get comfortable doing it. Intellectual comprehension is not the same as experience and familiarity.

Anyway... I'm rambling a lot, sorry. It's not like I haven't already given you enough to chew on. X3

Good luck with everything! And, do post the results of your endeavours, dhaa-ling, I do so love these little talks our ours. :3

Failing, hard. :3

I can't take full credit for it, though, it's a concept that goes waaay back. The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Impressionism, Surrealism... All movements that started because artists rejected what was considered, at the time, "the right way to do things." Why? because the "right" way was getting really boring.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PreRaphaelite_Brotherhood
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impressionism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surrealism
Also: if you're wondering what makes some Dizney movies, and most pop-music, so intolerably bad, it's because they're made to be successful... they're not made to be good.

Someday, I'll tell you my logical proof for the non-existence of bad art. When you're ready for it.

But, I digress.

>>116127
The bottom of the eyes are level with the bridge of the nose. Remember when I was talking about blocky noses? The way the nose and lower eyelids line up visually divides the face in half, which also makes the face look blocky.

For FiM-style ponies, the bottom of the eyes is level with the nostrils, and the bridge of the nose is somewhat above that. This breaks up the alignment, so the face doesn't have that even division, and the irregularity adds visual interest.

It could possibly be that her face is too wide. The head itself seems fine, but the eyes and mouth are quite wide for ponies. If you look at your other drawings, the eyes never go past the ears. Perhaps you should try narrowing the face a little

Sweet Celestia in a bucket... how did I not catch that one? I must be slipping. Good call, SpiritShine.

>>116449
Nice expression. The pose is cute, and her face matches it.

The juicebox seems narrow... 'course, juiceboxes come in all shapes, I suppose. (Gawd, I get nostalgic every time I see one of those. I've been diabetic since I was six, and all through my school years I'd have a few of those on me at all times, for when I needed a sugar boost. But, I digress).

Another point about the juice box... only one side is visible, which means it's a right angle to the camera. This seems odd, because chances are slim that SB just happens to be holding it exactly that way. Drawing two of the sides wouldn't be that much more work, would look more natural, and add a touch of depth to the image.

Her tail confused me for a bit. At first, I thought it was her mane, drawn much in a much larger and longer style than her usual. Then it looked like it was coming out from her spine, going all the way down her back. Then I realized it was her tail and it looked kind of like a sqiurrel's, the way they keep it pressed up against their back. Like this: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Red_Squirrel_-_Lazienki.JPG (unrelated note: I just found the wikimedia commons category for flying squirrels! I've been looking for that.) If there was some space between her back and tail, and/or the tail came out at more of a 45degree angle rather than coming straight up, it would probably be clearer and look more relaxed.

Her torso seems really wide. Fillies have chests around 2/3rds to 1/2 the width of their heads (That is, "width" as in distance from spine to sternum. Which would be top to bottom while on all fours, front to back while standing, and dorsal to ventral in technical anatomical terms of location. Don't I just love how convoluted orientation can be? No, not really).

The throat meets the jawline at a rather steep angle. My usual guideline is that the line for the throat comes out from the center of the circle for the head. It varies depending on the situation, but seems to hold true whether a pony is standing on all fours or upright.

The hoof in front of the juicebox seems to be pointing upward, and the one behind looks flat against her chest... neither one looks like it's actually holding the juicebox. X3

I could redline any of that, if it would help.

Looks like you're playing a bit with shading, it's looking good. The lighting gives a nice sense of layering, adding depth: the bangs lift off the forehead, the back lifts off the tail, and the arms lift off the belly. I like the touch of shade on the bottom of the tail that leads up to the curl, it adds depth and volume.

The shading on her cheek and mane covers both sides of the line, which makes it hard to interpret which side is on top of the other. Where the line for mane and cheek diverge, neither one comes out from under the other, so there's no depth cue there either. The curl under her ear is obviously in front, but the rest of the locks below it could still be in front of or behind the head. If the mane and cheek are supposed to be flush against each other, the shading doesn't actually need to be there at all, and is more confusing than anything.

Where the lines for her mane and cheek diverge, the tail underneath is the same shade as what's on her head. Making it a bit darker would lift the head off the tail, and add more depth.

The curl under the ear has light shading on it. If it were removed, the shade down the cheek (or mane) would have the same effect as the shading on the underside of her tail.

>>116346
>>116319
I just noticed the ears here: still big and cuddly, but the lines come to a point toward the bottom. Still keeps elements of the previous style, but much more unique and distinctive. More equine looking, too. I think it works pretty well.

You have no idea how much I laughed when you said it reminded you of a squirrel. I actually mentioned that it looked that way on my tumblr when I posted this XD Glad someone else saw it unprompted!

The 'shade' on her cheeks is actually supposed to be blush. Hard to do that in black and white.

I'll have to go back and try re-shading it step by step based on what you said. I decided I'd explore shading in black and white as it's a little easier to see, and colors frustrate the heck out of me. I'll likely do one or two more pieces this way (or just shade all my sketches like this).

I'll admit I totally half flanked the juice box. I should probably fix that.

The angles of how I should have the hooves with her olding the juice box kinda frustrated me. If you could redline it that'd be really helpful!

As for the chest, I was kinda going for making her a little rounder. So the larger bust was intentional.

The first feather in the the wings looks rather short- hey, waittaminnit...

>pic
Okay. I redli- uh, red-filled, I guess... a few of the feathers that are causing a bit of confusion for me. It corresponds to the feather no.1 in your diagram at the bottom, so I'm just going to call this the "first feather."

MLPegasusses have five primary feathers, the first of which is shorter than the second. This is typical of real-life wings built for agility and quick takeoffs.

Real life birds also have an alula, a few tiny feathers at the wrist of the wing. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alula

Here's another pic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Domestic_Pigeon_Flock.jpg Notice the pigeon on the bottom: the two primary feathers on the end are shorter than the third (which is basically what pegasus's wings are like in the show), and you can see the alula clearly.

Back to your wings... On the one hoof, the first feather is really short for a primary. On the other hoof, it's too close to the elbow to look like an alula, which should be on the wrist. On the other other hoof, the first feather looks a lot like a coverlet... those hug against the surface of the wing, so it seems odd to have one jutting forward.

tl;dr version: that first feather could be interpreted a couple of different ways. It gives mixed messages, so to speak.

The different looks give each wing a distinct personality/attitude, that's awesome.

Feathers layer so that the ones closer to the body are on top. If the wings on the right are showing the back side of the wing, the feathers are out of order.

The hindleg on the left took me a minute to figure out... an arc for the underside of the hoof would probably make it a lot more readable.

Very nice job with the pose. The anatomy/structure/proportions looks solid, and the body language is quite expressive.

Anyway... I talk too much. Hope this helps some.

>ack to your wings...

So basically, make the first feather a little longer. I drew it pretty fast, and a few of them I don't even use often (the second set is what I generally use)

For the third set that actually isn't the first feather you marked. I just drew 3 feathers for that set for a little exploration.

>Feathers layer so that the ones closer to the body are on top. If the wings on the right are showing the back side of the wing, the feathers are out of order.

The wings on the right are showing a sort of downward flap from the side. Though the layering is right, frankly they look pretty off.

I'll keep the feather notes in mind for next time! Thanks White Fox!

>The hair drops into the background, because they're almost the same colour.

Good thing or bad thing? It's a really easy fix if it's a bad thing

>The hindleg on the left took me a minute to figure out... an arc for the underside of the hoof would probably make it a lot more readable.

Her left or our left? Editing the legs IS doable, though it'd take time. I'd rather have specifics for what to try next time, rather than go back and have a nightmare trying to fix stuffs.
>> No. 116634
>Her left or our left?
I generally say "the" left to indicate the left side of the image.... not very clear of me, but I chronically avoid using "I," "you," "we," and "your" in critiques, while saying "her left" seems to make extra work for people. X3

I used to say stage left or right, but that often confused people.

I digress... I mean the hoof to our right, her left, stage right.

Sweet Celestia in a bucket... I just bought The Avengers on DVD, it's playing in the background now, and just as I was typing that sentence... Nick Fury said "Put it on the left." I am not making this up, I swear.

>I'd rather have specifics for what to try next time,
Nothing too fancy, just an arc or something to suggest that we're looking at the underside of her foot (that is... if we actually are looking at the underside of her foot). Kinda like the underside of Twilight's foot here: http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Twilight_Sparkle9_S02E06.png (why is it so hard to find a ref pic for this... aargh). At first glance, I thought "Hay, is that Sweetie Belle's knee or thigh sticking way up there? No, can't be..." Then it clicked, and it looked just fine.

>Good thing or bad thing?
Derp... I wasn't I clear on that, was I?

Bad thing. It's kind of like... the light pink hair on Sweetie Bell looks like it's actually painted on the wall behind her. Thus, it drops into the background.

I’ll be doing a request livestream tomorrow!

Tomorrow at 12:00 PM (noon) Central Standard Time the stream will begin, and will end when I either go to bed or run out of people/requests.

Request rules:
One Pony per person (to save time)
OCs- Okay!
Alicorns- No
NSFW - Not today
Canon Ponies - Okay!
Outfits/accesories - Definately!
Anthro - I can try I guess!

I will begin accepting requests in stream (you have to attend). Once I accept your request, submit a single reference (if it’s an OC) to my mod blog.
We’ll be starting off with my standard pandora channel, and might listen to some MLP episodes later on. Feel free to make music suggestions!

Feel free (please) to spread the word! See you tomorrow!

Good morning /art/

I had a pretty long day yesterday, did 10 full color requests with backgrounds of varying quality and streamed for 13 straight hours. Only reason I did 10 instead of 13 pieces was cause I had to eat and break once in a while. Somehow I managed to average out at an hour a piece!

I'm not going to flood you guys by posting all of them, so here's one that I really liked (and fits my mood). I might post like, 2 or 3 more.

The rest can be found on my tumblr http://kryptchildart.tumblr.com/

>>117537

I've not had much experience with the alicorn body type, and I'd rather not louse up a request this time trying to get the body type to work.

Also I'm not a fan of OC alicorns. I find them more often than not to be rather Mary Sueish and it gets kinda frustrating.

I'll draw your red and black striped OCs for free (albeit with a little desaturation so I can see what I'm doing) but the ex RPer in me gets really turned off when you put your character on par with the ruling powers of our fantasy universe, so that's where I draw my line.

I'm not saying you can't do it! I'm just saying I won't draw it.

It's true that my OC has none of those qualities. I'm often complimented for having a very interesting, non-mary sue alicorn OC. But I still understand if people dislike alicorns, and I wasn't asking for you to draw her, just a "what if"
>> No. 117576

I can see that, but considering it's been a rule of mine for a while, I don't intend to make exceptions to the rule.

If I did that, I'd eventually end up in a situation of someone saying:
"Well you drew such and such's OC, why not mine?"

I'd rather not have to deal with that, I'm sorry. The only real workaround would be a unicorn using a spell to form magical wings like what Twilight and Rarity did in Sonic Rainboom.

I may (probably) change the rule later! But for now I'm sorry, but no.

CANTERLOCK SUBJECT LINE

I think Saturday would be a nice day for a Request Livestream.

I’ll start around 12:00 PM Central Standard Time, same rules as last time. I’ll draw until I get tired, and this time I’ll use it to try some new things! Probably take a break or two to do a Glitter update.

I’ll post more specifics later! Feel free to spread the word, and may the dice roll in your favor!

I may just make an exception for undead alicorns, if any just so happen to win the dice roll that is. You know, in the spirit of the season.

NSFW - Not today

How to request!

Before I do each request everyone in the stream will pick a number. I’ll roll a 20 sided dice and the winning (or closest) number wins. You can give your request to someone else.

At 6:00 PM CST we’ll take a break to either watch The Watchmen or My Little Pony Royal Pony Wedding DVD (Canterlot wedding part 1 or 2, Hearts and Hooves, Sweet and Elite, and Best night ever)
We’ll call a vote in the stream.

After the movie, I’ll return to drawing until I either pass out or people stop watching!

Ooh the wings look so soft and fluffy ♥ Almost as if it were fur instead of feathers, which, don't get me wrong, is not a bad thing!

The nose seems to be a bit short though. Because bother the fur color and sky are such light colors, they almost blend in with each other and make it hard to distinguish! I think elongating the muzzle just a bit and adding more shadow to it may be a good idea c:

Either way I like it! I nosed through your Gallery and I really love your style, your ponies have such slender curvey legs! As for the humanized RBD you posted I really like her! You've got a great talent for hands that quite frankly I'm jealous of.

The only thing I'd change is her left leg seems a little too thin. It wouldn't be placed far enough into the background to be that much smaller than the forward leg. I'd broaden it a bit if I were you.

<b>LIVE</b>
http://www.livestream.com/pharmparty

(we start in about half an hour)

What you can request:
Anything MLP related (Crossovers, anthro (I can try), OCs, Canon ponies, etc etc.)
Non OC ships
No NSFW or Gore

How to Request:

Requests are chosen using a dice game. Before each request everyone in the stream must pick a random number between 1 and x (x will be decided based on how many people are in the stream). When you pick your number you must give a compliment to someone in the stream chat or your number will not be counted.
I will roll a die(dice) and the winner tells me what they want. If it is an OC, then at that point you send a reference to my mod blog submit box (but not before).
Winners are allowed to give their request to someone else for whatever reason.

Livestream Rules

You are allowed to promote yourself in the stream, but only after you ask nicely. Antagonistic behavior is not allowed and you will get one warning before you’re put in the quiet corner. If I or a mod receive complaints about your behavior, you’ll get quiet cornered.

No youtube links or random image links.

And last but not least Crystal Glitter from the request stream.

With these three in particular I tried a new method of shading (most visible in the OC above). I think it came out pretty well, but it's still new and I'm not 100% sure.

If anyone is willing to throw me a bone and critique any of the above three I'd really appreciate it!
Mostly concerned with how I did the shading/how to improve it, but corrections on anatomy/position are always a plus!
And of course any other notes you feel like throwing at me!

♥Kisses in advance!!♥

This little Draconequise filly is Jokul. She's my new OC born of a prank by my friend.

Last night in my usual Saturday request streams my buddy Pikapetey won one of the rolls. So as a prank, he decided to do a ten second throw together sketch of a terrible character to try and trip me up.
This is the sketch he sent:

I cartwheeled over it into an adorable Draconequise OC that I'm very proud of. Pikapetey was mad I managed to make his abomination cute, and swore next time he'd make it even harder. I eagerly await his next challenge.

I tried to make a gif.
It's only four frames and I forgot to do a pencil test before coloring the frames, which is why I didn't notice Scoots body and tail don't move until it was done. Live and learn I'spose.

Hey there, Krypt. You still in business? If so I'd like to request a drawing of rarity, except she needs to be made entirely of sapphire. Preferably with a look of shock on her face, but that might be pushing it. Waddya say?

I'm sorry hun, but I'm not currently taking requests outside of Saturday streams. Commissions are also on hold until I can sort out payapl documents.

If I could adjust the tags on my thread, I would.
