Have we asked Celestia Radio about hosting our shorts? I bet they would be interested.

Also, I don't really know CR, but I bet they're schedule is pretty flexible. They allowed our earlier stuff to go long, after all. And if our new stuff is too short, they can just fill in the extra space with random songs, can't they?

A lot of radio scheduling has to do with commercials, I think, but CR doesn't have any. (Aside from the spoofs and donation requests)

I think we should have a more unique name than "Doctor Whoof Radio Plays", since somepony else might make a radio play. I suggest "Doctor Whooves Adventures" until we come up with something better.

You're still using visual stage directions, so the script loses something in audio. For instance: >"The room echos with the mutters and whispers of its occupants. To the north is a far grander platform upon which sits one Pony who is clearly important and his two guards."

The audience will hear the whispers and echoes, but they won't see any of the other details. So when the Master starts talking it'll be unclear where he is. Granted, the echoes will make him sound like he's far away, but it won't be clear if he's on the other side of a big empty room, or if he's up on a platform with guards and obviously holding authority. This stuff needs to come across through dialogue (or narration).

Again, with
>"THE MASTER’s platform hovers closer to THE DOCTOR’s."
That's not going to come across in audio.

And again, with
>"THE MASTER leans in towards TWILIGHT."
etc.

I know, part of this is just a signal to yourself and the VAs about how to play their roles. But be careful you don't rely on any visual detail.

>My Lord DOCTOR! Oh, it is such a pleasure to see you again, truly! After the last time I feared I would not get this chance!

Hm...isn't the Master a lot less formal than that? This is the same merry prankster who brought us the "because of the gas" line, after all.

>But when you add the raw life force of a Time Lord to the equation? Oho! Then you’re cooking!

There, that's better. =)

>You butchered so many that day, no discrimination between good and evil. You ended it all, every saint and every sinner. Every Lord and every Lady. Every Imperial and every Renegade.

I'm not sure why the Master is pissed about this. He wasn't personally threatened (having been offworld under the guise of Yana), and it's not like he cares about innocent life (he just confessed to killing a universe in order to escape the time lock), and he furthermore doesn't care about Time Lord life in particular (he intended to merge them into his "Master Race" during the The End of Time episode). But maybe he's just trying to make the Doctor feel guilty? hm...

>That was until I ordered him to exile himself to Mount Solitude, leaving me in charge in his absence! HAH!

If the Master had the power to order Rasillion around, then wasn't the Master already in charge by that point?

>Okay, so all we need to do is break THE MASTER’s hypnotic control over the High Council,

At what point was it established that the Master had the High Council under hypnotic control? The Master mentioned the Memory Scoop but he never mentioned using it on anypony besides the Doctor.

>DOCTOR, you will place your hoof upon the Genesis Ark.

Why do the Daleks need the Doctor to open the Genesis Ark in the first place? Why can't the Master do it for them?

The ending confuses me:

>Of course! I can’t stop this, this has to happen because I have already stopped it in the past!

Then again there's the whole "Time can be rewritten" thing....

>Now you see, DOCTOR! You see the final extent of my plan, the impossible choice. Save your people and thousands die in the past, save the universe and your people return to the Time War to die over and over again for all of eternity!

Wait...who exactly will die in the past? Are we talking about the Canary Wharf event?

>Activate the Genesis Ark, DOCTOR, and your people can once again prosper. Give your universe to the DALEKs.

So, if he does this, the entire standard universe gets overrun by Daleks? Or is that merely what Dalek Supreme assumes will happen?

>I don’t... I don’t know what to do. I can’t let them go free to slaughter millions!

I take it that this is something beyond Canary Wharf, then. Unless that event was more deadly than I remember...

>Think of all the good the TIME LORD empire can do...

Um...what good? I thought the Time Lords turned corrupt by the end of the Time War. Aren't they still corrupt now? Though I do note that the Doctor gives them a stern lecture at the end.

>Saving you! I’m saving all of you!

But, by doing that, isn't he dooming an entire universe? Didn't we establish at the beginning that the existence of Gallifrey in this universe is dooming another universe in its place?

From before:
>But you’re burning up an entire universe to sustain yourselves, think of all the lives that are at risk! Think of all the people you’re killing!

Also, if the Doctor is activating the Genesis Ark right here and now, what's to stop a load of Daleks from pouring out and killing everypony in sight, and then LATER they go back to their home universe? Why do they (apparently) teleport away immediately?

Also, in the long term, I must admit I don't really want a New Time Lord Empire in the Equestria-verse. The Master can show up and whatever, but a whole Empire has world-changing consequences, and I'd prefer not to have to deal with those consequences for the rest of the series. I'd rather this story end with Gallifrey going back into the Time Lock.

So...yeah. Once again I'm proposing major changes. Thoughts?

>You're still using visual stage directions, so the script loses something in audio.

Trust me, it won't. I know exactly what I'm doing with the audio in each scene. I've had every detail playing out in my head while I'm writing. If I was going to be communicating this to another audio editor then more audio related description would make sense, but seeing as I am going to be putting this together extra audio detail does not matter.

>Hm...isn't the Master a lot less formal than that? This is the same merry prankster who brought us the "because of the gas" line, after all.

He is Lord High President of Gallifrey addressing a wanted war criminal in front of the entire High Council. There is a code of conduct and he does not want to break it, drawing any extreme attention to himself from the council could break the spell of the memory scoop.

Not only that but The Master's personality does not have to be exactly the same as Harold Saxon's, Time Lords' personalities can change drastically between regeneration. Just look at Romana. Romana I was a snooty, stuck-up and generally unpleasant person where as Romana II was essentially a female version of the 4th Doctor. I think his madder side shows in the monologue.

>I'm not sure why the Master is pissed about this.

That whole first part of the monologue is just meant to be The Master playing into The Doctor's guilt, he is not actually annoyed but the Memory Scoop needs a weak mind in order to meld.

>If the Master had the power to order Rasillion around, then wasn't the Master already in charge by that point?
>At what point was it established that the Master had the High Council under hypnotic control? The Master mentioned the Memory Scoop but he never mentioned using it on anypony besides the Doctor.

"They are all under my command now, even Rassilon bows to my will." The High Council is mind controlled into thinking that The Master is Lord President.

>DOCTOR, you will place your hoof upon the Genesis Ark. Why do the Daleks need the Doctor to open the Genesis Ark in the first place? Why can't the Master do it for them?

The story I'm going with is that the Genesis Ark does not recognize The Master as a high-enough ranking Time Lord. Where as The Doctor was one of the highest ranking combatants in the Time War.

>Then again there's the whole "Time can be rewritten" thing....

Fixed point.

>Wait...who exactly will die in the past? Are we talking about the Canary Wharf event?

No, we're talking about the event at the end of Series 4. The Daleks killed hundreds of humans in their invasion, it is fair to assume that they did that to the other populated planets too.

>So, if he does this, the entire standard universe gets overrun by Daleks? Or is that merely what Dalek Supreme assumes will happen?

That's what Supreme assumes will happen, he does not know that he will be stopped by Ten in the future.

>I take it that this is something beyond Canary Wharf, then. Unless that event was more deadly than I remember...

Again this is the Series 4 event, but maybe millions is a bit of an over-estimation. Thousands, perhaps.

>Um...what good? I thought the Time Lords turned corrupt by the end of the Time War. Aren't they still corrupt now? Though I do note that the Doctor gives them a stern lecture at the end.

Kind of answered your own question there, but not EVERY Time Lord was corrupt by the end of the war. It was mainly just Rassilon and his own personal council. Anypony who spoke up against him was de-materialized. Very few of the high council actually wanted Rassilon's plans to go ahead.

>But, by doing that, isn't he dooming an entire universe? Didn't we establish at the beginning that the existence of Gallifrey in this universe is dooming another universe in its place?

He doesn't doom the universe, his past self has already stopped the events which he is setting in motion. Not only that but now I think about it if he does not set this event in-motion the Doctor Donna would never be created, and that is a fixed point. So there are two fixed points that The Doctor needs to set in motion.

>Also, if the Doctor is activating the Genesis Ark right here and now, what's to stop a load of Daleks from pouring out and killing everypony in sight, and then LATER they go back to their home universe? Why do they (apparently) teleport away immediately?

Uhm... The decency of the Dalek spirit? I don't know, I think this can kind of be glossed over. It's not a big deal. Put it down to the Void Ship's connection to the universe growing weaker if you want.

I mean really they did the same thing in Victory of the Daleks.

I think it could open up so many doors though, so many interesting things that could happen. This was kind of the point of the story from the beginning, to bring Gallifrey back. In-fact that was pretty much all my initial pitch to Squeak consisted of.

I'm going to be honest Suns, I think you're looking too far into this now. I mean at first I could see the continuity issues but I'm fairly sure they're all ironed out now.

I've had like three people who have never watched Doctor Who in their lives look over the scripts and they told me that there wasn't anything they found particularly confusing (aside from the obvious problems with not knowing the basics about Doctor Who.)

OK! Few tips from what I have so far.

Love how you make a joke of explaining how Galifrey was freed.

> If THE DOCTOR experienced the end of the war that means the war has been re-playing itself over and over for years, and it also means that an incarnation of the High Council have finally found a way to break out.

I think you should cut this and say something simpler like.

"The High Council must have finally found a way to break out."

Completely skip on the idea that the last days of the war have been replaying.

Love the first part! Much better! Made complete sense and didn't introduce too many things in a confusing way, while also explaining other things by not explaining them.

On to part two:

>ROMANA wasted no time and stole the schematics from the Daleks, she then fled back to Gallifrey and began to build The Moment. It wasn’t long, however, before her treason to the Daleks was discovered and they launched one of their deadliest assault yet. ROMANA was soon discovered.

I think you should outright state that The Moment was a combination of the Reality Bomb and the De-Mat gun.

And I LOVE the speech that summarizes "The End of Time". It was incredibly well done and didn't come off as exposition, instead it felt a lot more like character growth. It's a nostalgia trip for Whovians and useful and interesting information on the Doctor to non-whovians. Good job!

>Now you see, DOCTOR! You see the final extent of my plan, the impossible choice. Save your people and thousands die in the past, save the universe and your people return to the Time War to die over and over again for all of eternity!

Just "return to the Time War to die!" would work.

Also, it still isn't really apparent that the Doctor is discovered there. It just seems like the conversation continues. You need a dramatic event or something (like falling through a grate into their midst) to emphasize the change. Also a reaction from the Master, perhaps in the middle of this line, should probably be inserted.

>You’re right... Think of all the good the TIME LORD empire can do...

Insert the line "Do it Doctor" from Twilight right after this.

Excellent monologue from the Doctor. I like it! And keeping the Master alive: good call. I'd love to have him pop up again.

>A fob watch? T-Thank you! It’s beautiful.

As a non-british person, I have no idea what a fob is. Why not say Pocket watch or simply watch. Whovians will know what you mean.

I really hope we keep doing this long enough for a Romana comeback to be possible, or perhaps we start seeing other, OC, Time Lords now that Galifrey is free...

Anyhoof, excellent rewrite! Much better and more understandable. Cannot wait to get started on this (even though I have no part in it, lol).

I kind of feel like it will work in the final product, there will be a few seconds of background silence after The Doctor gets whisked away, not only that but the disticnt sound of the TARDIS should mark the conversation ending.

>Insert the line "Do it Doctor" from Twilight right after this.

Alright.

>As a non-british person, I have no idea what a fob is. Why not say Pocket watch or simply watch. Whovians will know what you mean.

It's referred to as a Fob Watch in the show though, if I don't say fob watch specifically then I fear some people might not get the reference. But you may be right.

Another instance where the looping time thing comes up. It's a detail that hasn't been pinned down by either the cannon, or DW fannon from what I can tell, and I feel it's a detail that could be easily left out.

>"They are all under my command now, even Rassilon bows to my will." The High Council is mind controlled into thinking that The Master is Lord President.

Ah, I didn't read carefully. I thought he meant "they are all under my command" in the sense that he was their superior, not that he was using the Memory Scoop to control them.

>The story I'm going with is that the Genesis Ark does not recognize The Master as a high-enough ranking Time Lord. Where as The Doctor was one of the highest ranking combatants in the Time War.

Hm...then you should discuss that, especially because at the moment the Master is the highest-ranking Time Lord in existence. But I guess the Genesis Ark doesn't recognize that authority?

>No, we're talking about the event at the end of Series 4. The Daleks killed hundreds of humans in their invasion, it is fair to assume that they did that to the other populated planets too.

Ah, you mean The Stolen Earth incident? But how is the Genesis Ark involved with all that? I only remember the Ark showing up at Canary Wharf.

>He doesn't doom the universe, his past self has already stopped the events which he is setting in motion.

Wait, wait, wait. There are two threats to the safety of the standard universe, aren't there? The first was the mere presence of Gallifrey in the Equestria-verse, which (apparently) dooms the standard universe to burn for pure spacey-wacey reasons. In addition, there's the threat caused by the Genesis Ark and a zillion Daleks showing up. The Doctor knows that he (as 10) stops the later problem, but what about the former?

And if there was no spacey-wacey threat and the mere presence of Gallifrey doesn't doom the other universe, then what was everypony talking about near the beginning?

>Are you listening to this fool!? You ALL know this can’t happen! You can’t just leave a Time Lock willy-nilly, that’s why it’s called a TIME LOCK! Because the events are locked. The amount of energy needed to sustain the Time Lock without Gallifrey inside it must be burning up a solar system!

>Oh, it is! An entire universe, in fact. But don’t worry because we are perfectly safe and sound right here!

???

>Uhm... The decency of the Dalek spirit?

Um...no. We need a better explanation. Maybe the Doctor rigs up an automatic teleport system to get rid of them.

>I mean really they did the same thing in Victory of the Daleks.

That's because they were weak and had no resources to speak of. They were nearly killed by Danny Boy, and only got out of that with the bomb gambit. Once the bomb is disabled, Danny Boy can probably just kill them if they stick around. And, failing that, who knows what else the Doctor might come up with? There's only like 6 Daleks on that ship.

In contrast, the Daleks here have a gigantic army in the form of the now-activated Genesis Ark.

>This was kind of the point of the story from the beginning, to bring Gallifrey back. In-fact that was pretty much all my initial pitch to Squeak consisted of.

Yeah, maybe I'm being picky. But I'm kindof a perfectionist when it comes to creative stuff. (I even criticize my favorite films).

>The Doctor knows that he (as 10) stops the later problem, but what about the former?

Aha! I understand this enough to answer!

The Doctor goes over it really quickly just before he's discovered then reiterates it during his monolouge in the end. Essentially, the returning of the Daleks with the Ark in the Void Ship to our universe was enough to counteract the leaving of Galifrey from that universe.

I may clarify that then.

>Hm...then you should discuss that, especially because at the moment the Master is the highest-ranking Time Lord in existence. But I guess the Genesis Ark doesn't recognize that authority?

He isn't actually Lord President though, there is a ceremony in which control is handed over. The Master never went through that, he simply tricked everypony into THINKING he was Lord President.

>Ah, you mean The Stolen Earth incident? But how is the Genesis Ark involved with all that? I only remember the Ark showing up at Canary Wharf.

Didn't you ever wonder where all the Daleks from that episode came from? Genesis Ark.

When The Daleks return to their universe they rip the hole between the worlds wide open, forcing it shut.

They do have some minor ads from some of the more lucrative pony projects (Specialized flash drives and the like) but as it looks now we'll probably have to have a episode by episode runtime as opposed to a set time each week. We may have to shift around a bit while we find our legs. As for the shorts I was thinking we should make a few for the express purpose of advertising 'Coming Soon' and the like. Or perhaps we can make a short end tag and stick it on the credits of each episode so people know what's going on. I like the idea though, and am waiting on a reply form Celestia radio.

These have been added to the script list. I very much like what you've done! I say these can pretty much be put into production now.

In that vein, I have decided the casting for these episodes, the roll of The Master goes toooo

Dash
Seriously a friend of mine wants to have your babies because of that performance.

And Romana goes tooooo
Wollffeey
Lovely inflection and tone, great job on this.

To everypony else, you also did fantastic jobs. As Dash said I was buggered to choose between the lot of you! I mean geeze people if you don't stop being so talented I'll have to make doubles of all the episodes to feature all the awesome voices.

So, if everypony's okay with those, we can begin production.

Working on it as we speak, should have a short done soon.

Here's the basic idea, TDDs interview Lauren, and then in the middle of the interview The Doc and Twilight crash into the studio. Then the Doctor and Derpy, then The Doctor and Pinkie, then The Professor and Dusk and whatever else I can fit into a short, all in different TARDIS.... Whatever the plural is for that. Leading to big timey whimey confusion. The Doctor sorts it out after getting a word with each of the hosts and Lauren, and things return to normal as the interview continues.

Good; I've always felt that standardized runtimes are bad for storytelling.

Fine ideas, but...what's wrong with the shorts we already have? They'd work just fine for CR. In fact, they can basically be treated as songs and played at random from time to time.

Sounds good. Should I take it that the draft script I submitted earlier has been abandoned, then? Or will we use it some other time?

The only thing about runtimes is that they assure a certain place every week. Making it easier to build a following. My main concern is that if we shift around week to week we'll get less listeners on the premier showings. But if push comes to shove we can make some ads to pad time or play it by ear and just hope people follow.

As for the shorts I suppose we could but it might be a bit random. Though they could toss them in as buffers on Fanfic Friday. That way it'd fit in with the theme, and people listening to the station for music wouldn't be interrupted. The main reason specialized shorts would be better is because the others are rather long, people listening to the station for background ambiance, or who aren't whooves fans might get annoyed if suddenly they're stuck listening to seven minutes of something unrelated. Shorter more to the point things would work far better.

On the script thing, the DD said it was a bit short, and it might be cooler if it meshed better with the interview itself. So I came up with the idea after a little back and forth. In anycase the short will be recorded before the airing, and the hosts will be supplying there lines same as VA's. Lauren and Jamjar will be the main interviewees, but everypony will get at least a little screen time in the most hilarious way possible. It should be great fun.

There's probably SOMETHING I can add to pad each episode out some more without it feeling like padding, I just have to figure out what it is.

>The only thing about runtimes is that they assure a certain place every week. Making it easier to build a following. My main concern is that if we shift around week to week we'll get less listeners on the premier showings.

But the important part about "having a place" is having a starting place, isn't it? If we're on every Thursday at 3pm (or whatever), then all the fans can just tune in every Thursday at 3pm. Whether every episode is the same length as every other episode seems less relevant.

>But if push comes to shove we can make some ads to pad time or play it by ear and just hope people follow.

If we need to pad, perhaps we could have an optional segment after each episode, unconnected with the main plot. For instance, the Doctor and Twilight could respond to questions and comments that fans have emailed in to us. (Because apparently the TARDIS email client can break the fourth wall). This would be easy to write, and you could tailor it to a pretty specific runtime, to even out the length of the episode that came before it. (So there might be a 26 minute episode followed by a 4-minute "extra" segment, for instance)

>As for the shorts I suppose we could but it might be a bit random. Though they could toss them in as buffers on Fanfic Friday.

Yeah, ask about Fanfic Friday. That sounds good.

In anycase go for it! And yes I think you're thinking of Bon-Bon Lyra has never spoken. In my head she's Irish, but that's just me. If you'd like to go for that I welcome it, but if not I'd say look up Donna Noble on youtube and go for an american version. She may pop up again later in the plays.

Also, no Berry's not in this short. But I'm contemplating a episode based on the Gender-swapped universe. So Qd may take up the mantle again in the near future. He was really quite good!

Sorry for the inactivity, I've been pretty I'll the last few weeks and as such have not been able to make much of a start on episode 2. Will hopefully do some work on it this week.

But yeah, I just read the interview skit's script and I must ask; is there any particular reason for Lyra and Caramel to be The Doctor's companions? I was going to suggest changing Lyra into Derpy as I don't think I've ever really seen Lyra as The Doctor's companion before and Derpy is normally his companion in people's head canons.

Okay, somepony hand down a decision then. I can certainly try on an Irish or British voice again, but I keep thinking of her as a bit of a punk take on a valley girl. Punk in Cali, I guess.

BUT. If it ends up Derpy to make use of the other areas of our fandom, I already have a Derpy voice. I can easily do one 'soft' and one slightly more alert-sounding Derpy easily.

Okay, problem solved. I just did everything. Tell me if you want anything redone (and how), and if I missed any lines. It's all up on my GDoc, but if you forgot, it's here: http://tinyurl.com/floolines

Pinkie is there, then one set for Derpy (just in case), and Lyra is really long. She's got the lines in a (vaguely, lol) Irish accent in two or three different pitches, and American with one more sarcastic variant. For some reason the Lyra in my head either sounds like Bon Bon or a punk. >_>

Anyway, feedback, as always, is welcome. I did the takes in one sitting, so I won't be surprised if I need to redo something.

Also, I got new speakers but they suck worse than my old ones. Any recommendations for good speakers that won't break the bank? My old ones have a shorted wire, which made it so only one side or the other would play. : / The new ones just have terrible quality, and everything sounds flat, and I don't know if I'm always like this or if they're emphasizing every pop and rumble in my voice, but I feel like my work is sub-par lately. D:

Also, LG, any advice on how to reduce pop? I have the windscreen that came with my mic: a basic round one that stands away from the stand a little. I also know enough to speak a bit "around" the mic piece, like I do in storytelling with lapel mics, but mine is sensitive enough that if I speak too far away, you can tell. Should I do something else? The popping is worse than everrrrr. ;_;

Well, my general idea was to have things get more and more random as the short progresses. I figured Lyra and Caramel are the two single least likely ponies to travel with the Doctor so it'd throw people for a loop. If you really think it should be changed though we'll use the Derpy takes.

>>31478

It went well, though there was some confusion.

Originally it was going to be that we'd start with Lauren recording live, then we'd skip over the skit (which we're recording on our own time), and then we'd conclude with another live session for all the non-Lauren people to talk about themselves for a bit. But once we actually finished Lauren's part, it was decided to end it there and record everything else (including the post-skit stuff that was supposed to be live).

So now I'm going to record a couple sentences about myself and the project to be inserted into the post-skit section.

I learned a couple things from listening to Lauren's part:
1. Lauren is not actually British
2. Lauren is a voice in EVA. Granted, it was a small part; she was Misato's answering machine. But still. Wow.

Popping in with an update to the third script, Musical Discord, which I think we should rename do to the actual Discord not showing up in the episode. In anycase Sergeant Kazoo and Mrs.Kazoo have a lot more lines now:

Also, I was wondering what the general thought about bring an artist onboard would be. Perhaps to make simple posters and the like to go with the episodes. Eh, that'd be wonderful, but a lot of work for any one person to do. Between the five episodes of the first season, assuming there are four scenes per act with four acts each that's roughly eighty separate images. Instead of a lot of small quick images, I think I'd be happy with five really nice ones to represent each episode. Plus to do that we'd need a video editor as well. I could probably do it but my skills leave much to be desired.

Actually, I was going to talk to you about doing just that. I'm not an amazing artist by any stretch of the imagination but I can at least kind of sort of draw a bit maybe sometimes if the moon is in the right position and the stars line up.

One per episode would probably be my limit though, takes me ages to draw my horrible pony art. Though if you'd rather bring somepony else on board then I'll take no offense.

I'd already cobbled together some title graphics and such that I was planning to use on my tile cards though, if you want the PSD just tell me.

Ooooh, I like the artist idea. I think if you put out a call, you'll get enough offers to make one picture per scene. You could always divide up the different acts among your talent, so that no one gets stuck doing 15 pictures at a time.

Anyway, unlike all the other times I pop up randomly, I don't have any voices for you today. I'll probably end up doing the credits and a load for episode 3 tomorrow, but nothing now.

No, instead I bring tidings most awesome. Now, I assume you're all familiar with CyberToaster and his rather awesome comic "Legend of the Lunar Shadow" if only because it appears to be episode 4. Picture very related.

Well, I might have left a comment on the final comic and he might just possibly may sent me a PM that went something along the lines of "I would be happy to illustrate your next audio play, so you have a slideshow to go through while the voices are going on."

So yeah. That happened.

Well, the only upcoming roles I can see in the six planned first season episodes are for Treble, a bit part in Chords of Chaos, and Viva, a pony in Shadows of the Lunar Republic. Viva, I'm pretty sure is going to Shai, so that leaves Treble. I could give an audition for the role, but it is a rather small one. Lunar Republic is mostly unfinished, but it's about half done and the only characters I've used so far are The Doctor, Twilight, Pinkie and Viva. Celestia and Luna pop up later scene, but we have almost entirely male applicants so those roles will probably be split between Lauren and Shai.

But, if we're looking really far ahead there's quite a few male roles coming up. We could outline a few of them and see who pops up, but warn them they might have a bit of a wait. I'd be fine with this.

>>32038

No worries, we'll just splice you in with the power of editing. The Great and Powerful Dash knows that kind of magic.

So, I've come up with some written poster concepts. We can run these by CT or anypony else who may end up with the position should he turn out to be busy (Fingers crossed). After we find out how much he, or...she for that matter... is willing to do we can talk slide shows, but for now the opening images are the main focus:

So:

Number 12 Part one:
Twilight, Spike, Pinkie Pie and the Doctor standing in front of a smoking Tardis looking fearfully upward at a trio of weeping pegusi

Number 12 Part 2:
The Doctor (Now in a suit, with bowtie) waving a sonic screwdriver at three weeping pegusi holding Twilight captive. Spike and Pinkie standing behind him shouting.

Chords of Chaos:
The Doctor, Twilight and Sergeant Kazoo running on a gigantic organ, followed by several ponies in 17th century dress, wearing what appear to be brass headphones. A pony in a phantom of the opera mask stands in the background.

Shadows of the Lunar Republic:

For this poster we could probably just use an image from the comic, but if CT feels up to something new: The Doctor and Twilight looking up at the moon, behind them menacing shadows reach forwards.

Dash, you can think up two posters for yours, along with any other images that are worked out

I emailed Everfree radio, (Using Kenobi's recommendation) though I haven't heard a reply yet, I'm pretty sure they'll be fine with it. Wonderful, extremely happy to have you onboard!, Welcome to the team lovely to have you. The posters will probably be enough considering the fact that you're a student. A slideshow for the finale might be cool. But we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

As for when we need them, we're very flexible. How's three weeks? If you need more time just give me a shout, really we're good with anything.

If you'd like to write an episode be my guest! I just ask that you read the previous scripts and make sure it fits within cannon. 6000 words is the general benchmark and equals up to about 30 minutes.

If you'd like to write a short you're also welcome, it can be as long or as short as you wish. We go for light humor, but do your thing.

And of course you can voice any VN that come up. They do speak a lot in the play. But your voice will be altered by QDbrony to make it sound more menacing and growly. The script for the episode based on your comic should be out by the end of the week, I'll run it by you to make sure you're alright with it.

If you'd like to read the scripts so far they can be found here:

Here's the first pass at number 12. I think there is a problem with the Ponies looking up at the Weeping Angels, especially because they are looking into the background, but I don't think the disconnect is too huge. Hey guys, I figured I could do some cross promotion! Here's the deal

I have an art live-stream that I run every Friday night at 9:00 PM EST. (That's pretty late for those of you in the UK) I think it would be a great Idea to have Jam and some others on my show to talk about the radio plays, the fandom, and general pony things. I'm sure if I get two or three of you guys I can definitely get an EQD news post. I normally only have a dozen or so viewers a week, but with an EQD post, I see that number multiplying a great deal. It would be a great way to not only increase my viewership and increase awareness of the plays, but would give me a chance to hang out with and meet you guys.

Let me know how this sounds, or if next friday, Feb 3rd isn't good.

Working out the composition for the second poster.

Squeak, a good thing to keep in mind when arranging posters is that a composition where two characters are looking at each-other results in either a straight profile (which is flat and boring) or inevitably one character facing away from the viewer. Some scenes make for a poor poster layout. If you want to come up with some compositions that are a bit simpler that would be good. I'll keep fleshing this one out, but for example, if I were to draw Twilight and the Doctor looking at the moon for episode 4, with the moon in the shot, they would have to have their back turned to the viewer, which just makes for a bad presence. See if you can rework the descriptions a bit. just some food for thought!

Talk to you guys tomorrow!

and again, Great job on the Radio Play. Sound Editing and manipulation is so beyond my visual mind, so I commend you guys!
~Cybertoaster
>> No. 32622
Or we can have Twilight at the foreground being restrained by the weeping angels, while the Doctor stands beside them using his Sonic Screwdriver? That way we can avoid having to draw either one of them from the back

>>32547

Hmmm I see your point. In my head The Doctor would be on one side of the poster, while Twilight and the WA would be on the other as they tried to drag her off screen. But that is a straight profile, which could be a touch boring. Perhaps a better layout would be if Twilight were floating above the Doctor, Pinkie and Spike, surrounded by the three WA's, eye's glowing, energy shooting everywhere etc?
As for episode four I thought that The Doc and Twilight looking away from the viewer might add a feeling that something's not quite right. Sort of a 'Look Out!' kind of thing. The moon in the center being the main focus, the Doctor and Twilight sitting next to each other, and a whole mess of scary shadows slinking towards them while it appears they're totally unaware of the encroaching danger.
Of course this being the episode based on your comic I want you to have the most input on it's design. So perhaps something different, maybe The Doctor,Twilight and perhaps Viva running towards the viewer through the abandoned Republic, various VN's chasing them as the darkness grows. That could also be very cool. Tell me what you think.

Also thanks again, the sound editing is thanks to our marvelous sound director Dash, who really knows his stuff, and makes things, as his namesake would say 20% cooler. Not to mention our fantastic cast of talented VA's and the QD who's job it is to make the baddies unpleasant (He'll be the one making you sound really scary for your role as a Vasta Narada.). We're quite lucky to have such an awesome bunch of people, yourself included.

No I'm willing to use tracks from other series as well; I've used a few tracks from Series 4 and the 2009 specials in Episodes 1 & 2 as well as one or two from the Sarah Jane Adventures. I also used the first version of The Doctor's Theme in the scene where Twilight and Spike first locate the scene, though I kept it pretty quiet so you may not have heard it.

But keep in mind that until Series 5 they only released the "best" tracks from the series meaning there is very little incidental music from series 1-4 for me to use. Most of the series 1-4 stuff is the memorable tracks where 5 & 6's soundtracks have a lot more ambient stuff.

When picking a track I normally scan through pretty much every one until I find something I like, though really a lot of the older series' stuff seems out of place save for the few memorable tracks.

Soo, yeah!

Sorry to double-post, but I have some opinions on "Number 12 Part 1."

-I really missed hearing something similar to the opening titles. And the perfect part would be Twilight exclaiming, "My library!" and galloping off. *Snarl-swoosh* *Doodly-doo* *Doodly-doo* The theme really helps set the tone for me for Doctor Who(oves).

-"I wish he'd stop doing *that*!" Doing what? I didn't hear anything that would suggest that the Doctor was doing anything. I know it's the sparkly breath from the script, but I didn't "hear" sparkly breath.

-All-in-all, great audio drama. There are a few little music choices or acting cues that strike me as a bit odd, but that's me playing the so-called Monday Morning Quarterback so no biggie.

I can probably do that, might be able to cobble together some other sound effects to make it sound show faithful. Just means I'm gonna' have to spend a while fixing all of the broken file allocations in my old project file because I re-arranged my sound effect folder.

If it's too much trouble you really don't have to worry about it. I don't think we'll ever have to use the sound effect again in anycase. Or at least not for a long while. But if you do manage let me know!

I kinda forgot whether there's any sound effects when the Doctor starts showing signs of regenerating. There are sounds during regeneration, but before that…?
But still, adding effects might be good to help listeners visualize the scene.

Probably unrelated

We don't depict the Doctor before his regeneration; we depict him more-or-less after the regeneration, when he needs to nap for a bit to finish the process.

Ah I understand.
(if my memory serves me right (and it often doesn't),in the show, the golden fumes usually appear before and during regeneration, not quite after regeneration? So I figured that if we're looking for sound effects, we should look for those before regeneration)

My Who-lore is very very fuzzy so I could be wrong. Ignore me in that case

When 9 became 10, there was a time afterward when he had to nap and occasionally exhaled golden smoke, IIRC. That's what we're doing with Doctor Whooves.

The excess energy is produced by the Time Lord's brain because the Brain takes a lot longer to re-form than the body. That's why The Doctor is always so erratic after a regeneration.

Alright guys, so here's what's up.

MY LIVESTREAM IS FRIDAY!

Friday at 7:00pm EST, I will be doing a LiveStream interviewing JamJar and anypony else who can make it from PIABP. We'll hang out and you guys can help me trick out a drawing of a pony while being interviewed by me and the chat.

My Skype is Zerglingleader or Zachary Urtes (Full name, there should only be one.)

Squeak, maybe you could throw something up on the Blog about the stream? This is both to get me more viewers, and to get you guys some extra press. And, also because I would like to get to know my fellows in the Box. XD I also sent an email to Seth about EQD, so hopefully they'll put up a post about it.

Hope to see some people there!

CT, the main change is the ending I think, I cut Rainbow because she doesn't know about the Doc in our Cannon and stretched it a bit, adding a little nod the a future episode's plot. Anyway, thanks Squeak, but I kinda wanted him... fleshier. Again, as a counterpart to Celestia... though he will be fireproof, and when we do see him at first, he is literally dripping in magma... I guess it's lava, since it's above the surface...

Arcanine elements do have merit, though... I'm thinking an overbite, and arcanine cranial elements might be good for that.

Celestia forgive me. You lot can blame Jamjar for this, he planted the idea in my head with his drunken fanfic night. It's a little something for Valentines, though with all of your respective loads of work, I understand if anypony would like to wait a while before getting it out.

I felt the intro theme lacked a bit of punch when it came to the "who-y" bits, if you get what I mean? I'm not really sure how to describe it in musical terms but yeah.

Also there's the issue of the stinger which I brought up yesterday. The stinger at the start of every Doctor Who theme is a big part of that "fuck yeah, Doctor Who" feeling you get when watching Doctor Who but none of the current or past stingers really fit your theme very well.

Would you mind making your own version of the stinger that fits better?

Yeah, that pretty much sums up all my problems with the theme, other than that it's amazing.

Notes for the Lunar Republic script:

1. I see you've abandoned the Jekyl/Hyde concept we were going to use for Luna/NMM while on the moon. (And Viva was going to be her most trusted servant, the one who locked Luna up whenever she became NMM and released her whenever she turned normal again). I can see how maybe there wasn't enough time for that, but I miss the concept.

2. Having imagined Viva as a servant of Luna, and furthermore knowing that she's been on the moon for so long, I expected her to be a lot less casual. I didn't expect phrasing like "Hey, you two, I got some advice if you wanna stay alive." I expected a more distant/serene/honorable attitude, which came up in the line "You have my word that nothing will harm her.". The moon itself is distant/serene like that, so it seemed to fit well. If you're gonna go for the more casual route, I guess that's fine, but then the "you have my word" line seems mildly out-of-character (with regards phrasing, not meaning).

3. I wonder if perhaps Pinkie is a bit too chipper about these flesh-devouring monsters attacking ponyville.

4. Just before they go to the moon, the Doctor and Twilight are in the Tardis. The Doctor reports that the VN are coming "under the door". It's unclear if they then actually seep in under the door, or if they smash the door open. But if they seeped in, that's a problem, because they're supposed to be possessing an earth pony. And earth ponies, as far as I'm aware, can't squeeze underneath doors. (Unless the VN have some power to morph the earth pony's shape)

5. The idea had been that Viva was made from moon dust, rather than normal flesh and blood. If that's still true (and I think it should be), somepony should comment on it.

6. At the beginning: "We can go anywhere, any time, to whole new universes for you... " We established before that traveling to other universes is quite hard. I suggest you use the word "worlds" here instead.

7. I like how Twilight's narration allows us to describe things that don't show up in audio. Perhaps we should use a narrator (Twilight or just a generic narrator) as a standard feature? I'm not sure, though.

8. The bit where the VN are vulnerable to music seems odd. I mean, I get the humor of using that song as a weapon, but I feel that any mention of music clashes with the "light vs. dark" theme that the VN are based on.

9. At the climax, it's hard to picture what the TARDIS is doing, exactly, in order to get rid of the VN.

10. The original climax had the Doctor and Viva imploring Luna to use her power to boost the brightness of the moon to sun-like levels, thus blasting all the VN with a wave of light. It was a great moment for Luna, and Viva, and it fit with the light vs. dark theme, and I'm sad that we've lost that moment. I guess you decided to prioritize the friendship between Twilight and the Tardis? But I don't see why. (A "power of friendship" message would work just as well with Luna or Viva as the friend.)

11. There's a few other details I'd like to change regarding out set-up for the season 2 arc. (Btw, are we going to post the season 2 synopsis's soon?)

Let me know what you think.

I’m with Sonic on this one, but I’ll address him point-by-point:
1)The loss of the Jekyl-Hyde thing also hurts the setup for season two that we were going for, to help establish… well, that there’s more to NMM than meets the eye. (though not in a Transformers sense).
2)Agreed.
3)Sonic, here we disagree. She faced down Nightmare Moon by calling her “Black Snooty,” and “Queen Meanie.” She walked into the lair of a dragon dressed as a present wearing flippers. Her being chipper in the presence of flesh-devouring monsters is… well, it’s kinda expected at this point.
4)I don’t think you went far enough in your criticism here, Sonic: the doctor has previously commented that “Not even an army could get through the doors of the TARDIS.” So the VN getting into the TARDIS through a door crack, when the door frequently opens to space? Doesn’t really fly as well with me.
5)No comment, you got that right.
6)Same as five.
7)While I like it, too, I don’t think we should make it a standard feature. We’ve got it running pretty much like an episode now, so I don’t think we should add it unless we want to shake things up a little.
8)Agreed.
9)Also agreed.
10)You’re probably sensing a pattern here.
11)And for a change of pace, same.

1. Yes, I thought that since we were still in season one I'd make the season two hints a lot more subtle, plus there was the time thing. Seemed like if I tried for that it might stretch into a two parter, so I decided to stay a bit truer to the original comic.

2.In the comic she was pretty casual about the whole thing. I made her a bit more wary of Twilight and the Doc at first. Since I kept a more of the elements of the story the same I didn't change her character that much. Hence the line from the comic.

3.Pinkie's always chipper when facing death and doom, it makes for good humor I think.

4. They've possessed Celestia at this point, so they're quite a bit more powerful. Just assume they used magic.

5.It's a bit of a play on the old myths about man being made of mud and rock, she's not made out of it any more, those were just the base materials. Though in any future appearances this base could perhaps be used against her by villains and such...interesting idea.

6. Universes is a typo, it's fixed now.

7. A narrator all the time might make it seem a bit too read outloud fanfic. Though having one every now and again is fine with me. I was planning something similar for a future episode.

8.Again, I decided not to change the original comic's idea on the big defeat. Since we don't have a Rainbow Dash on staff I tweaked it a bit to something a bit Pinkie-er. I was rather fond of the idea of a Who villain with a Pony Style weakness.

9. Basically what the Doctor said earlier. The TARDIS tuned in to the sonic resonance that defeated the VA with a bit of extra magical assistance.

10. We came up with that idea before the comic was actually finished. I went with something a bit closer, but perhaps a good edit might be to have Twilight almost get overwhelmed by the VN before defeating them, then having Viva implore Luna to help her, then she brighten the moons before her self being overwhelmed, allowing Twilight to do the TARDIS thing?

As for the season 2 synopsis, everypony's pretty busy with season 1 at the moment. Don't want to try and do too much at one time. But if everypony wants I suppose we could go ahead. Email me any thoughts you might have on it so we don't spoil anything for anypony who might be paying attention to this thread.

Uh. I'm going through the Shadows script again because I discovered a new grammar rule I want to be sure I followed. Because I'm a perfectionist. >______> While I'm at it, I'll edit for Viva's lines to fit better into an adventurous/casual personality character (unless you want to go the serene route, Squeak?).

Yeah, but she was also freaked out about Zecora, and she panicked when Apple Bloom got Cutie Pox. So I guess, in canon, her reactions to danger are all over the place. (In which case, I guess we can have her do pretty much whatever)

>>33597

>2.In the comic she was pretty casual about the whole thing.

>8.Again, I decided not to change the original comic's idea on the big defeat.

No offense to our dear CyberToaster, but I'm not concerned with adhering to the source material. I mean, the original comic was great and all, but what if we want to take things in another direction?

>4. They've possessed Celestia at this point, so they're quite a bit more powerful. Just assume they used magic.

So, did they break down the door or what?

Also, while we certainly could go with "just assume they used magic", I'd like to find a more elegant explanation if possible. Like...what if the Doctor hears Twilight coming (when she's still outside the Tardis) so he opens the door. But she's too far away so she has to teleport in. After she's in, the Doctor is distracted for a moment ("You can't just teleport inside a Tardis like that! That would take tremendous power...") and a VN pony gets in. He closes the door behind it to stop the others, but the one that's already inside is still dangerous.

>It's a bit of a play on the old myths about man being made of mud and rock, she's not made out of it any more, those were just the base materials.

I'd like to have her literally made of the stuff (though she still moves around like normal). So it's obvious just by looking at her that she's not a normal pony. (Of course this is an audio project, but still, other characters could react)

>Again, I decided not to change the original comic's idea on the big defeat.

But why not?

>Since we don't have a Rainbow Dash on staff I tweaked it a bit to something a bit Pinkie-er. I was rather fond of the idea of a Who villain with a Pony Style weakness.

But we have a Luna on staff, and the story is obviously related to Luna. Why not use her as the big solution? It's such a good moment for her character, too; she has to face down her older sister and the very thing that was eating her alive for 20 years. It's really really clear to me that she should take point at the climax. Let Pinkie defeat some other monster in some other episode. (Though it wasn't really Pinkie saving the day in your version; it was the Tardis. But the Tardis got the idea from Pinkie. Whatever.)

Besides, the jump from "attack the VN with light" to "attack the VN with sound" is tenuous. They haven't displayed qualities in common with the parasprites (except eating things, but they already had that in common), yet suddenly we figure out that they share a weakness. How? Well we know the VN came down about a year ago, and Twilight added parasprites to the Ponyville Bestiary about a year ago. But...so what? The parasprites obviously existed prior to being added to the Ponyville Bestiary. There's no reason that the VN would share a weakness with a creature simply because they happen to have descended to earth at the same time that that creature happens to have been cataloged by Twilight. Maybe if we had some evidence that the VN have been inside the Everfree Forest, that would make for a better connection, but then we'd wonder why they copied the weakness of parasprites and not, for instanace, cockatrices.

But more importantly, I just think it's better storywise to give this moment to Luna.

>perhaps a good edit might be to have Twilight almost get overwhelmed by the VN before defeating them, then having Viva implore Luna to help her, then she brighten the moons before her self being overwhelmed, allowing Twilight to do the TARDIS thing?

That's a step in the right direction, but I'd rather just leave out the TARDIS thing entirely. Just destroy the VN with sheer brilliant moonlight.

You could even do a bit where Luna starts fighting back but we don't realize it at first.

Like this:
(VN scream)
Doctor: What? What's that light?
Twilight: Doctor, look outside...is that the sun?
Doctor: It's not the sun...it's the moon! Luna, you're brilliant!
Luna: Unhand my sister, you monster!!
(VN scream again, fade away)

etc.

(Man, I can hear the music in the background and everything...)

Cool! After we have Jammy's Dash can get started on it. Don't worry about Viva's lines, I'll look through them.

>>33604

I do personally want to keep a lot of elements similar to the comic including Viva's character and the musical aspect. The Parasprite connection is hinted at by the Doctor saying that the VN seem different earlier in the episode. He just makes the connection after Pinkie Pie says the word. So I think there is a setup for that.

Still both I and CT do think Luna could play a bigger part in the ending, so I shall mix the two together sometime tonight and give her a far larger place in the climax.

CT is streaming the newest episode of My Little Pony at 10:30pm EST. It'd be awesome if you guys would drop by! It was released early, and apparently it is awesome.

Yeah,it would be better if Luna played a larger part in defeating the VN
(it's a bit jarring if you ask me,to see the VN,which had tormented Luna for so long,be defeated by music of all things.Sides, this is a rather Luna-centric episode so it's a good idea to let her shine)

And CT's streaming the newest episode?

If I wasn't hard on myself than I wouldn't be me? Thank you for making me feel better though. I really do inadvertently upset people in real life, and I didn't want to make anypony here mad. It's harder to tell emotions online, which doesn't help. u_u

Have a hug. :3 And also some Pinkie.

Aw! The Professor can always use more art. It is my secret plan to force the Who writers to make a Genderswap episode...muahahhahaaa.

In anycase...looks like we might be going live next Saturday! That's an exciting thought! Celestia Radio has an opening at 6pm next Saturday. If all goes well I'll get a post on Eqd before the show, and if we're lucky one afterwards to link to the youtube page.

And yeah the Professor needs moar art, she's fun to draw (so does the Doctor himself)
IIRC the DW parody skit (called Curse of Fatal Death I think) featured a female Doctor.

Crossed Wires!
>> No. 33908
Hey! I got the link for the final version of episode 1 last night. Great job, everypony!

I kinda think we should say "Doctor Whooves Adventures: Episode 1: Number Twelve, Part 1" during the opening theme, though perhaps we should wait till episode 3 or so to make that change. Part of the point of a theme song is to make time to deliver other information to the audience, like cast names and the episode title. We don't need cast names (they come during the end credits), but I think naming the series, the episode number and the episode itself would be helpful during the opening theme.

Granted, that would interrupt our own theme song, but I think it would be worth it.
>> No. 33920
>>33908

I kind of feel like in the first episode we shouldn't add title credits as it messes with the first time people will likely hear that theme. We want them excited over it, shivers going down their spines.

Heck, if I get shivers over it after my 20th time listening to it... Hah!

But yes, in episode 2 and onwards? Sure. Title credits are fine.
>> No. 33934
>>33920
Yeah, I see what you're saying for the first episode. Title credits for 2 and onward or 3 and onward. (Maybe we'd want to keep 2 the same as 1 since it's a two-parter? I don't know.)

Also, with regards to the big announcement:
Post is up! https://ponyinaboxproductions.wordpress.com/2012/02/13/first-full-episode-of-doctor-whooves-this-saturday-at-6pm-est/
