TL;DR: IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A REVIEW, PLEASE GO TO ONE OF OUR MANY REVIEW THREADS INSTEAD OF MAKING YOUR OWN THREAD. Threads looking for reviews rarely get what they ask for.

So! After reading the sticky at >>43232, you've decided to make your own thread for a fic. Here's what your post should generally look like:

Name field: Masterroxxor#tripcode
Email field: [email protected]
Subject field: Masterrroxxor's OC Alicorn Adventures

Message field: (start message)
To /fic/, my awesome OC alicorn adventure somehow made it onto EqD! I've decided to share it all with you for some reason, though.

In this glorious adventure, our hero, Masterroxxor, born of meteor and raised by wolves, finds himself magically teleported to Equestria and gains the ability to transform into an alicorn. He meets Nightmare Moon in the Everfree Forest after an altercation in Ponyville, the both of them spurned by the local pony denizens. They join together in hate and envy in a plot to change the world, and perhaps each other...

Of course, this is only chapter one of my tale. Stay posted, as more is sure to come soon!

And that's a good OP, even if its subject matter is questionable.

Now, if you're going to post a thread for your own story, please note the following:

1.If your thread says, "Hey, EqD sent me here and told me you guys could help me, so if you could email me your review, that'd be great. Thanks!" then new threads are probably not for you. We have many review threads for you to submit your fic to, such as the Training Grounds. That's what those threads are for, and reviewers generally stick to such threads.

2. You're going against (for what is now) the flow. Most threads like this get ten posts at most. The showcase threads that actually have discussion going on are usually for popular fics, like End of Ponies by short_skirts_and_explosions. But, if you really wish to make your own thread to spur discussion, go for it! Just don't spam-bump it.

Humor is nice, but a more straight example of a "good OP" might be better, I think.

EoP is Star 6? That's news to me.

Derp. This was copy/pasted, and I changed the name from Evening Flames, which is Star 6, to yours. Sorry about that.

Though, from what I've heard of it, it most certainly sounds like it'd be six stars.

Strangely high number of things not meeting even a basic standard lately.

Is the goal to keep this bumped to the top, right under the sticky? Seems like that might help, a little.

Example. The links don't go anywhere particularly meaningful.

After seeing so many OctaviaxVinyl Scratch fics, I've decided to hop on that bandwagon. Can't go wrong with more BGxBG shipping, after all.

Octavia quietly passed her days alone until Vinyl Scratch drunkenly stumbled into her life. Now, against all odds, the two must bring each other through a world of volatile friendships, passion, ambition, money, ungrateful jerks, oppressive bosses, and orange traffic cones before they bring themselves at each other's throats.

Good OP, I want to read that...
... What do you mean there's no story?
Good title, good table of contents, good summary, but... but...

Bumping because it seems relevant in light of the fic threads looking for reviews.

So, just to clarify, we need trips and e-mails in order to make a thread?

It helps.

Trips keeps people from masquerading as you. This is the internet, people can be jerks about that kind of thing. People do like to post: 'I'm leaving, story will never be finished' on occasion.
Email makes it easier for people to contact you. If you don't have a pony-alt-mail address, just make one. It's not like free email services are hard to find really.

Since this thread was made before the implementation of tags, I think I should cover those, too. For the non-genre tags:

#Author is a compilation. For example, >>76837 is a compilation of theworstwriter's works.

#Reviewer is for review threads, like the Training Grounds or Vimbert's thread. This is definitely not something you use if you want your fic reviewed.

#Single fic is exactly that: a single fic. >>84310 is such an example.

#Collection is for a collection of fics, like the Sensual Fiction General or the Coversion Bureau side stories. They generally have the same theme for their fics. This somewhat overlaps wih #Author.

#Discussion is for a thread that discusses a topic, be it about a fic, a genre, writing styles, or other things.

These threads can be combined. If you want to discuss Fallout: Equestria, then you can use the tags #Single fic and #Discussion. If you want to discuss the collective works of StarmanTheta, you can use #Discussion and #Author. If you want to make a review thread for only grimdark and shipping fics, you can use #Reviewer and #Grimdark and #Shipping.

Genre tags should be self-explanatory.

I have a question. I hope that's okay.

I've been getting reviews from Vimbert, and now that he's retired, I don't really have anyone to turn to. I accidentally thwarted my chance of getting on board with the Training Ground earlier on, and by this point, I kind of feel like it's too late. While my story isn't gargantuan, it's long enough that I feel uncomfortable submitting it to a review thread. I could start over by submitting chapters one by one from the beginning and probably learn new things doing so, but I also feel that many of the problems I had at that early stage are no longer relevant to my writing today. To some extent, I would be wasting reviewers' time having them repeat lessons I've already learned.

Looking around, there seem to be a few successful project threads for stories of comparable "popularity" to mine (at least by a measure like relative numbers of comments and views on Fimfiction).

With these things in mind, is it acceptable for me to try out creating a thread of my own?

I don't really expect a lot of people to bite, but I'm not sure what else to do for input at this point...

(There is no tl;dr.)

>I accidentally thwarted my chance of getting on board with the Training Ground earlier on, and by this point, I kind of feel like it's too late.
Nonsense! The TG is built for stuff like this. If you don't want a general forum, why not take a look at the list of names on the Review Board and see who's available?
>While my story isn't gargantuan, it's long enough that I feel uncomfortable submitting it to a review thread. Whether you, as a writer, will not make similar mistakes now is irrelevant to the work produced. Don't let your growth prevent your previous work from getting the help it needs / deserves.

>With these things in mind, is it acceptable for me to try out creating a thread of my own?
There's no hard & fast rule about making your own story thread, just the simple truth that they rarely get any attention (unless it's 'read my story' attention you want, and not 'review please' - 'read my story' posts have moderate success).
