I didn't see a topic for this, but the voting for the Write-Off has started on FiMFiction. The link is here:

http://www.fimfiction.net/index.php?view=feb_write_off

The prompts were either:
-A fire breaks out in the Everfree Forest
-Strange creatures are attacking Ponyville
-The Mane Six go on a vacation

One of those is being used a lot more than others (pic related). But anyways, if you're bored and feel like reading some fanfics, why not go over and vote?

Huh. I've only read eight of the stories so far, but most of them (five) used the creatures attacking Ponyville prompt.

Anyway, I think it's a neat idea to vote fics side-by-side, but it's already caused me some problems. I feel guilty about having to vote against a reasonably good story in one matchup, then voting for a much worse one in the next because the piece it's up against is so much worse. I suppose there's no perfect way to run things, though.

If I run into two really bad stories, neither gets a vote.

I've read around six... I think (?)

None of them were particularly notable except for one that involved killer fire ants.

Yeah, I've run into the "But I dislike both fics" problem as well. I just don't vote, then.

I'm not sure how much this affects voting, but I'm running into stories that have appeared maybe five or six times, while some I've seen only once and then never again.

Luck of the draw, I guess?

Do you know how many stories there are? Or does anyone else? I've only read a dozen or so, but I've already seen two repeats.

Knighty said something about 160.

If I remember correctly, it's around 240. Might have read it wrong, though.

Why are there so many grimdark stories?! Did all the authors have massive hangovers when they were writing their stories and decide to take their pain out on the protagonists? Something like two-thirds of the stories I've read have been about war, murder, or death.

Isn't that standard operating procedure for most fandoms? War, Murder, and Death will probably not be explored in MLP canon (directly), so people rush off to do fanfics of it.

I'm pretty sure two thirds of Band of Brothers fanfics are probably M/M snugglefests and slice of life stories. Again, because it will probably not be explored in canon so.... (Note: I have yet to look at the BoB fandom at this time)

To be fair, two of the three prompts do lend themselves to grimdark.

BRB, off to search the internets for BoB slash...

It's 240.

I really like this setup. So far, all the pairs I've gotten have either been the same level of awful, or one's been far and away the obvious choice. But usually the former.

I agree with this.
