I'm doing something different this week. TWO livestreams.

I know, I'm crazy, but hear me out BEFORE you go running for the hills!

The first livestream I'm doing is going the be the same thing I've been doing the last 8 weeks: reviews. I'll paste the whole deal about rules and instructions below.

The second livestream I'm trying something new. I'm going to review a fic, but it is going to be a CONSTRUCTIVE review.

>"But I_Post_Ponies, what is a constructive review and how is it different?"
It's like you can read my mind! I was just about to tell you!
Usually what I do are destructive reviews. I tell the author what they are doing wrong, and what their fic is missing. I don't offer much in the way of what they should do instead, because it's the author's job to come up with ideas and solutions.
Constructive reviews are the flipside of that. I will 'review' a well-done fic and tell you what the author did right. I will point out all the juicy things about the story, things authors should keep in mind when writing their own.
And the fic I will be looking at this week is:

It Takes A Village
by determamfidd

This stream will be much, much shorter than a review stream. I intend to finish in under 30 minutes. Hopefully under 20, even, but I've never done this before and I can't tell how long I'll dwell on any point. The idea is that I can get up a video that authors can watch whenever they want to, an impromptu 'guide' to fanfic writing if you will. If it goes well this week, I'll continue to do it.

I'm not sure what time I'll be doing it, seeing as it's Easter weekend. I have a few options: Saturday morning, Sunday morning, Sunday evening, or Monday evening. Keep in mind I'm talking US Central Time here. If you want to watch live (remember, I'm recording this too!), just tell me where you live (time zone or general area will work).

^^^^^^^^^ READ THIS BEFORE POSTING ^^^^^^^^^

Now, back to regular thread:

Seeing as /fic/ loves its rules, I've got some of my own:
1) 8000 word limit
1a) If you have a 1-shot or there aren't many stories posted here, I'll be much more lenient with the length.
2) You need to be able to be watching the stream when I review your fic. I want to help you out as much as I can and part of the point of livestreaming is that you and I can interact! You don't need to stick around the entire time, just for your fic. I'll review the fics in the order they are posted and post the queue in chat.
3) I'm willing to review clop/gore fics, but since these are forbidden on Ponychan, you should email me the link at [email protected] You aren't required to post in this thread if you email me your fic, but I would highly recommend it.
4) If you do so wish to watch me review fics, don't put down other authors or their fics! It's okay to not like grimdark or shipping or clop, but you don't need to tease others for enjoying these things. Love and tolerate.
5) I've gotten to the point where I'm usually not able to get to every fic submitted each week, so fics I missed from the previous week and shorter fics will get preference. Fics may also be dropped at my discretion (mainly if you need a lot of grammar work and it isn't fit for a thorough review yet).
6) If you're submitting a fic, post it in here with a link and title. I would prefer if it was gdocs with comments enabled and I would like a synopsis/tags as well, but I won't reject it because you left those things out.

The stream will be on Saturday, April 7th at 3:30pm EST/12:30 PST! I usually show up about 20 minutes early to test my streaming software and connection, so you can chat with me then if you want.

Why should you have your fic reviewed on a livestream you ask?
1. Live reviews are very thorough. I will say every little thing that comes into my head that I think will be useful. I go over the chapter several times to make sure I said everything I could.
2. You can interact with me. Whenever I get confused or have a question, I'll ask. Whenever you have a question, I'll answer it right there. If you want to explain something, you can.
3. You can throw ideas around and have some immediate feedback on them! Last week the authors and I talked quite a bit.
4. You can learn from other authors as well! You can watch me review other fics as well and pick up on things I point out.

If you're worried about being embarrassed in front of a bunch of viewers... don't be. I don't do this for the viewer count, I do it because I can do the most good in the shortest amount of time. First week I did this I had 3 viewers. Last time it was about 7.

I will stream as long as I feel like. It usually lasts between 2 and a half and 3 and a half hours. Come and go as you like!

Before the storm, there was music; and before even that, there was inspiration.

For five years, the colt named Gallant Hatter heard the lovely music of Octavia being played: he even got to see her and watch her play in person! However, five days before a massive storm hits, Octavia vanishes. Nevertheless, even with Octavia's disappearance Gallant continues to hear new melodies being played in his mind; it is as if Octavia never left him.

Soon, sheet music begins to fly pass him and he begins to realize that they are the melodies being played in his mind. As the days go by, the music begins to turn darker and tell him that a storm is about to arrive.

Will Gallant head the warnings of the music? This has yet to show....

Ha, this looks fun. And I can take all the advice I can get.

And thank you in advance. May you enjoy the story.

Err... it's a one-shot sitting at about 11k words. If you don't want to review it, just tell me and I can wait in ttg.

Hello! My apologies for appearing at the last minute, but I literally just saw this thread, half an hour before the livestream is set to begin. I'm posting my fic up here now in the (vain) hope that you might be able to fit it in at the end, but if not, I have no problem waiting!

I'm putting your fic at the end of the queue. The other 3 are pretty short so I'm sure I'll have time to do at least half of yours.

Just in time. This is the last fic I'll be accepting. Stream starts in 20 min.

Special thanks to you, IPP. I really didn't expect you to take an 11k word story. Especially since your rule is 8k. The review was helpful and may or may not have validated my writing skills. Though, I'm sure there are many more errors in there that you didn't cover for the sake of time.

Take care!
