Just wondering why the formula for finding the derivative of a function even exists

lim h -> 0 f(x+h) - f(x)
___________

when the power rule basically does that shit for you. Why would anyone even need this shit.

What? No. I said I was feeling odd now, but at least I accomplished a little today by sketching a bit. You might be a little out of the loop, but managing to even sketch a little, or feel like I havent wasted a full day has become rare for me lately.

Not working on anything specific, just needed to try and draw a little. Mostly, it's just a few character sketches of Pearl from Steven Universe. She's easy and fun to draw.

That is just an example of how the rule is proven through first principles. It's an exercise. Sometimes they will make you go through it for questions but just as an exercise. In reality you will just use the power rule, the proof just explains why.

The videos happen sort of when they happen. Gonna write hte next one soon, though.

And unrpdocutive, yes... as a result / being the cause of a depression I have been diagnosed with. I never feel anything I make will e good enough or cared about. Basically: It takes a lot for me to do much creative work because I'm depressed, and I am depressed because I can't do much creative work.

It's a current Cartoon Network series. This is the character I've drawing. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-b8nOQel-bR8/U5aEccGKnAI/AAAAAAAAF5g/8lQIYGveIuk/s0/pearl+being+cute+and+hd.png

What is Grepolis, and what is Beyond Earth? I don't feel like I've been living under a rock but i don't know either of these things.

The first principle proof explains what calculus really does. It can help you realise how differentiation and integration relate to rate-of-change. It might not mean much to you but there would be some people who would be understand it best in a formal language like that. However, I can guarantee you that there will be a question on the proof on your midterm. Just memorise how the proof goes and move on. It won't be anything more complicated than just regurgitating what they have already told you. They wont expect you to prove it independently.

>>1608379
Oh sorry that you're not feeling it at the moment. Maybe you should do something that isn't so comparative for a while. I may have actually seen something of this show, I'm not sure. The art style looks familiar.

It's not just "Not feelign it at the moment". It's "struggling to ever feel it at all, and it quickly collapsing". Add to it that I am having ah ard time accepting that this is because I am actually ill, and things get complicated.

It's a great show, really.

Inadverently, and out of a desire to go home/show Steven more wonders, and the instant things were about to go wrong she realized her folly and apologized. Steven says himself that he is in danger so often as things are normally anyway that this barely fazed him.

One instance of a character showing a bad side or temporary blindness to danger that has sympathetic reasons behind it does not make me dislike a character. It would be ridiculous to let one unfortunate moment mean that.

>>1608387
No. It made me miserable for a long time before, and it makes me miserable now. Having the diagnosis changes little other than adding an extra "I should be recovering faster / not have this in the first place" frustration. It's a slow process, and I am not handling the slow part that well.

Grepolis is a browser based city builder that some chan dudes pulled me into and then abandoned me in. I'm probably going to get seriously molested by a rival alliance before long, but I'm holdin' on for now.

So you didn't meet them from an interest group then? Well, then I'd say try to keep the conversation on them. If there is anything that everyone likes it's talking about themself and having someone else be interested. Even if they say they don't like it, secretly they do. Try get them going with an opener like 'how has your day been' or 'your shoes look nice' or something like that and then just keep asking questions out of the things they say. You keep them talking and they'll have a great time.... and maybe you will too.

psychic is 1.0 against ghost so his hypno could still hurt you. You're attacks aren't stab anymore so have fun dealing less damage. If you're a special attacker I'm pretty sure he can wall your shit if he has max EVs in HP and special defense as well as wish/protect

I would have recommended using seismic toss on hypno but if he's going to make you a ghost then that would be pretty pointless

But seriously, 2K. Of all the things to leave out of your game, why saving? Why would you intentionally design your game so that the only way to save your progress is to stop playing?

This is even more retarded than sparsely placed save points. And that's pretty damn retarded.

Apparently it's a common problem with old Acer models, the capacitors were just dying/dead. My dad took it apart and most of them were bloated with overuse. One of them had even busted open. Got them all replaced and it works fine, even about 30% brighter than it used to be.

Color's still all weird though, and I can't figure that one out.

>>1608635
Nah, not really. I haven't really been firmly rooted in here even sine I "came back".

And I mean, if you're absolutely insistent on giving it a new home, I'll take it. I can use 3 monitors, lol.

>>1608648
I mean, it doesn't really bother me much, but it still seems like a bass ackwards way to design a game. It very rarely crashes my video card, but when it DOES happen and I lose about 3 hours of quest work because there isn't even an autosave feature (seriously? no autosave at all?) and I didn't feel like taking a break, it's a bit frustrating.

Maybe this was their attempt at getting people to stop gaming and go outside or something? Even so, seems like a bad marketing tactic to make your consumer base use your product less.

>>1608660
I'd have a look around first. Apparently it's somewhat unique to Acer. My ASUS has no problems and I couldn't find any such error with it. Still, if you've got nothing else to go on it's worth a try.

As far as Ebon's participation is concerned, yeah. I'm not too sure about what you mentioned though, I honestly didn't notice which is why I was a bit surprised when you took off feeling upset. I must've missed something in particular amongst all the chaos - but I think as far as the understanding that Ebon was not trying to be hostile in any way, that misunderstanding is resolved as far as I know.

For some reason, one of our dogs struggles to jump up on the couch (usually she tries at least five times before she manages to climb up), and yet when she's outside wanting in, she can jump up half the height of the back door without any problems.

Alright. I felt upset because I felt a bit demonized from Anoni (and a bit from Character, of all people), like I had the intention of hurting his feelings or something when in reality I was just trying to help him and the situation so it WOULDN'T be escalated further. I felt like he didn't even know me, like he expected the worst out of me. I had felt like my character was attacked. And some of the hypocrisy just really frustrated me.
Combined with the fact that it seems like every other time I try to help out someone or to be a mediator, it blows up in my face even if I didn't do anything inherently wrong. Which makes my self esteem that's already pretty low, lower.

>>1609061
I know, but I kinda felt like it. Whenever I try to help out, I try to throw out emotions so that things are as clear as they can be and such.
I'm sorry if that seems lecture-y in my approach, it isn't my intention. My intention is to give clear advice to help someone or a situation, or to just do... what I can. In the end, I was just trying to tell him, that fighting fire with fire in circumstances like that just makes things worse.

Well, yesterday evening I suddenly got really hungry around 11:00 PM, so I ate a rice cracker to suppress the hunger a bit. But unfortunately, all it did was give me a killer stomach ache that kept me awake until 2:00 AM. I ended up waking up again three hours later with terrible nausea, and I didn't get any sleep besides that.

I had a job interview today, which is really hard to do on just three hours of sleep... But the trip there was even harder. I had to go out there in the middle of a rain storm, spent a rediculous amount of money on a 15 minute bus ride (€3,50 for 15 minutes is freaking criminal), and ended up at the wrong address.

I had to call my brother out of his bed, who spent his sweet freaking time getting to the computer, just to get the right address. Problem is... I actually had the right address. Apparently, the company moved without changing their address on the website!

So, I had to call up to the employment agency, and explain the situation. All the while still being in a rain storm, of course. I had to wait for another 15 minutes until they got the right address, and ended up half an hour late at my job interview.

Fortunately, she would still interview me. During which I discovered that the job wasn't at all what I was expecting. They asked for a Junior webdeveloper with knowledge in all the standard languages, Javascript, and PHP... But the job itself only entails making small changes in the website's content and doing chores. As much as I wanted to turn it down, I'm not exactly in a position to do so... So I just had to roll with it.

Then, after travelling back in the rain and paying another rediculous amount of my rapidly dwindling supply of money, I discovered that my brother had used the deadbolt locks that can only be opened from the inside, and went back to bed. God knows how much time I spent throwing stuff at his window to wake that lazy bastard up.

So yea, that pretty much ruined my day. And now I have to wait until next week to hear if I get a job that I'm not even sure I want.

Honestly I can't even really tell. At a certain point I basically mentally checked out. At like 11 PM, before the whole mess started, I was already saying that I was going to be mentally useless because of the sleep dep, and this went on until well past 2 AM. Missing posts, misreading things, misreacting to other things... bleh, I cannot be sure of anything from then.

Since no one is gonna say anything to me, might as well say it.

My grandma just told me that, my grandpa just feel at the local bar. She said that he has a gash on his face, and broken his arm. Now he's in the hospital with my brother, and father. Plus, he's 84 years old, so he might die.. live.
Also, I was having a great day until this happened.
Can I just get one good day...please?

Not really. Looks like the color balance is fucked. When all three RGB are even the color is yellow and washed out. When blue is ~15 higher than red and green, the whites and blacks are normal, but the colors are off.

Then... I just can't be your friend anymore...
When things hit me this hard and there is no talk afterwards, I just can't handle seeing that person around/interacting with them because that is actively stepping on my feelings further (at the same time, I understand that if I were to force you to talk about it, I'd be stepping on yours).

If your stance is that cemented...then so is mine.
I've tried in the past just to forget it and carry on, but that's not how my mind works because that'd require me to bottle stuff up and letting it fester... Believe me, I have tried very hard.
But, I just can't. If it was something lesser, I would've been able to.

Rarity is easy mode when it comes to posting ponies, you have little to worry about in that regard. Yes, the heart can be quite resilient, beating on and on for years upon years before finally starting to weaken and eventually giving in.

For some reason, it reminds me of a song.
'We're still young, but we are getting older
Our hearts are still warm, but they are getting colder'

There's nothing remarkable on my end, but thanks for asking nonetheless.

You speak as if acceptance from me is unusual, yet you post Rarity and speak clearly and concisely - two traits I quite admire in people. Not to mention the vague sense of familiarity you give off, which leads me to believe we were already acquainted at some point anyway.

They do come off that way, though I've always seen them as relatively hopeful - probably because that's simply the general tone of the song. It's that rare blend of melancholic yet hopeful, I quite admire that.

Amazing things never fall into my lap, but thanks for the wishes nonetheless - I hope the same for you.

I was thinking of making an ironic '[senpai] finally noticed me' reference, but that's too overplayed...especially by me. I speak clearly and concisely? It seems I am in need of more liquor! I don't really know what to call our relationship, honestly. Acquaintance is a loose fit, but it's the best I can think of at the moment.
Perhaps it's just the pessimist inside of me speaking, but those lines seemed to be quite hopeless to me. The fact that everyone and everything is slowly dying is what I got out if it, but I can see how it could be seen as hopeful in that there is still life left to live before confronting the void.
The future may hold quite a few surprises. At least that's how I personally see it. Thank you for the return wishes!

I got the impression that was where you were going with it. I don't suppose you plan on disclosing to me who you are, considering you likely wouldn't be posting as an anon if that weren't an issue?

That's absolutely accurate, though in the context of the song it promotes a stance of 'life will beat you down, but you can't let it get the best of you' (The Best of Me being the title, by the way) and that line is, to me, more a statement of 'the longer we wait, the closer we get to death and so now's the time to take the initiative'

I'm not so sure I agree, if there is a God I think it's quite easy to understand why his work in literature was shortlived - he's simply not a very good author, his work is predictable at best. That's all life has ever been, predictable in it's let downs.

That won't happen anytime soon! I have so much to do, just thinking of things I should actually be doing. Then there's a whole giant list of games to play and things to listen to and like almost two decades of Doctor Who to watch and I'm sure more things will come up!

Thay one is less of a recipe and more of a "buy these things in cans and dump them onto a frying pan" though!

Hm... Duly noted. Do you know why indie suddenly got so overpopulated? I'd love to know. Do you believe that bands should generally stick to one style?
I believe so, yes. I'll work out the bugs to my joke-dar and we can reconvene some other place some other time to test everything out.

Reminds me of things that aren't related to calculations.
I'm fond of the 84, honestly. 83 is a little clunky and 89 does a little too much on its own. 84's a good medium.

You know, it's funny but indie is a genre I could never really wrap my head around - I don't really get what defines an indie band, though I know how to recognize it when I see it. So it's hard for me to make any commentary on why it may be getting overpopulated with any authority.

I personally think bands should follow whichever path they feel is necessary. Speaking as a musician myself, the odds of you wanting to accomplish the same things and play the same style of music as you did when you started are relatively low and I personally believe every musician should be evolving in some way. For some, this will just mean constantly finding new ways to push themselves within the same niche while other artists will want to branch out when they feel they've accomplished all they can within a genre or simply lose interest. I think both are equally valid, and so long as you can still tell that they are giving it their all I am behind it. I may stop listening to them, because let's be honest we can't like everything, but I will maintain my respect for them because that's simply the path they want to pursue.

What's your take on that sort of thing?

Saying you'll never watch something out of some long-disproven prejudice (unless you're a particular Twi shipper, in which case fair play - Twi does kind of get off with someone who isn't said Twi shipper) is... well.. not exactly the most open minded I've seen

Indie is "overpopulated" because it's the one genre that literally anyone with no musical talent whatsoever can get into, and they're called special snowflakes because they make music that's "gritty" and "unrefined".

That's not to say that there is no good indie, because there is, but most of it is just garage bands of 3+ people that cannot sing or play an instrument.

All it says is.. I dun like the genre. Seen some of the previews... not for me. Does not make me a closed minded person just for not liking something.

Everybody has their likesand dislikes. I'm sure you have your own. It's personal choice.. not closed mindedness.

I'm sorry but the previews are not the movies, and have very little representation of them.

If you'd rather not give them a chance fair enough! But I'm not going to say that it's not a tad bit dismissive to refuse to watch something due to a trailer. There's a phrase we use here "Don't judge a book by its cover"

Isn't indie a genre now, too? I always thought that indie was about being independent from a label or something along those lines. I'm fairly new to non-electronic/orchestral music though, so I could be horribly wrong.
This is assuming that the main purpose of a band is to make music that people enjoy (most likely for money), right? I like your point on musical evolution though, totally agree there. What sort of musician are you? Take that as you may, I'm not too picky with answers.
I don't think I know enough about the topic to say anything of use, as with most things.

Why not? Do you watch every movie ever released?

Would you not watch a film cos you saw the tralier and it was a snuff film?

People judge books by their covers all the time. Otherwise everybody would buy every book ever made.

Unless you like watch everything yourself, you can't say someone is closed minded for not watching something you yourself like.

Truly impartial and non-preferential.

But seriously. I know that anyone that's talented can just fuck around on an instrument and it's not the most glorious work on that instrument. But I also know that anyone with no talent can flick their hands across a few strings and call it "music".
