>>1661943 I suddenly woke up, but I was at my grandmothers. I must have fallen asleep on my usual place, her own room in the front of the apartment. As looked to my left however my grandfather was sitting the the chair. How was this possible I thought. He was very bad in the hospital, how could he be here. »Did you get better, grandpa?« I asked »Yeah, yeah« he said waving it off with a gesture of his hand. »How is this possible?« But then he just stood up, like trying to avoid my questions and I walked behind him. His whole posture and everything was different. It looked as if his head would hang much lower than usually. But he walked firm without any sign of weakness. After walking a round in the flat we just ended in my grandmothers room again. He set down on the armchair again and I on the couch. Then my parents entered the room, placed a tiny table in front of us and put more chairs around it. They placed an Advent cookies plate there and I heard my grandmother brewing coffee in the kitchen. »I am glad you are doing better« I told him, trying to start a new conversation. But he just smiled dull and said nothing.
But suddenly he cramped weirdly, started to flail with his arms and yelped something like »Last Journey!... I don't want want this!« My parents and I tried to calm him down! And the he proceeded to press himself sidewards into the chair in a grotesque way that maybe me worry if he was breaking his neck or something, and he somehow flailed with his legs and got his pants off so he was only left in underwear.
And then he stopped and did not move any more at all. My mother who is usually a calm person now held him close and shouted »Father!!«
We all assumed worst. But suddenly he jumped awake again. And was lively as before. We were like struck and he just pulled his pants up and it seemed like nothing ever happened. We didn't dare to speak a word, and even my grandmother stood with us now.
But I could feel how everything changed. Suddenly everything started to feel different. Like the reality I was in before made way for something that could be described as something so bizarre it might remind you of one of those French cartoon.
He stood up once again, smiling. But something was off, it was neither sincere nor dull. It felt as if something was missing now.
Then he moved into his room and left it immediately again, but he changed his clothes. Now he wore a beekeepers hat and an umbrella and was just leaving the apartment running down the stairs happily. I looked out the window but my view changed as if everything turned into a movie and I could see it from a third point of view.
My grandfather walked straight to a woman trying to inform you about the need of stopping wood clearing in the rain forests. And my grandfather grabbed his pocket took his old university identity card, just tossed it into the form box they had there and then proceeded running down the street further laughing.
Everyone of us made haste now trying to catch him as he seemed to lose his sanity, or I mine.
Eventually we managed to catch up with him when he rushed into a public bath. There we found him sitting in a small flat pool, with his head barely poking out of the water. He looked like a child that was all sulky and huffy. As we walked up to him he greeted us with »Berry compote! ... « mumbling.
For some reason I couldn't help, but smile since it was so silly. We all did! And then my grandmother stepped forwards and kneed down to him. »You have been very exhausting for all of us today« she said. However in order to not make it sound like a blame she added »But it has been a fun day, right? It's okay now.«
He blew a few bubbles and nodded sadly at us, then he grabbed one of the tiles of the pool below him and simply removed it shoving it aside, revealing a dark hole beneath. He swam down it and firmly closed the it with the plate again.
The last things I saw was just the bubbles coming up. They went »Pop, pop« on the water surface and then there was silence.
The next thing I saw was the view out of a familiar rectangular hole in the ground. Various belongs were placed in it as it then started to fill and the view went dark again. The only thing I could hear was the tune they played.
And then I woke up.
