We're not the only ones expressing distain for the DLC bullshit and microtransactions. The DLC thing is a system that is easy to abuse. As for microtransactions...let's just say keep your prices reletively low or else you'll face an angry mob.

Lemme explain...

How the DLC system should work:
- expansion packs
- bonus characters and content

How the DLC system should not work:
- essential files
- stuff that allows you to continue playing the game

As for microtransactions:
- like I said before, keep your prices low
- whatever is being sold better be fucking worth it
- bundles are not recommended as you might end up getting something you don't want

In short: DLC should just consist of expansion packs and bonus content.
In the meantime, microtransactions can be done right...it's just hard to do right.

In parts of this, I'll admit that I'm probably talking out of my arse. Sometimes I do that.

LA Noire had some cases added as DLC, which took place here and there in the main story.
The main story had references to some of these cases, even if you didnt own those specific DLC.
They were not "totally important", Still easy to see that they were cut.
Assassins Creed 2 also had some missions released as paid DLC later, the difference is that they were more important for the story. The developers even said that they had to cut the content because they didnt have time to finish it before they released the game.

Yeah, a lot of DOTA 2 stuff... kinda makes sense, since Valve implemented this paid system, and they get like, half of the shares or around that.

I'm torn on the issue because, on the one hand, I'm more than okay with paying for high-quality content, but on the other hand, it's Valve. And their quality checking has been pretty shoddy for a while now.

What's wrong with taking a bunch of the best mods, polishing them up a bit, making sure they work properly and then adding them to the game as paid DLC? I'd gladly pay for that. I want to see people rewarded for their work. But this is an awful way to do it.

There's no quality control. You have 24 hours to get a refund on a paid mod to see if it works, that's your reprieve.

Yes. That's the problem. 24 hour refund is fine, but that has two issues as far as I'm concerned: First of all, having to ask for a refund every time a mod is shit. And secondly, how do we know that's gonna stay there? Knowing Valve and what they did to the Steam Market, I'm not terribly confident.

An example would be last time I wanted to stream a movie. I wanted to use my amazon gift card so I could watch in in HD. So I had to sign into amazon, select the hd version. And then after 10 minutes of it checking my plugins, I decided to just watch it on dailymotion. Because watching it for free was far more convenient than using the for pay service.

I could watch it on netflix of course. But can the selection on netflix compare with the selection on pirating and free streaming sites?

Do people actually use that term? Wasn't that like from 50 years ago back in the 90s?

In theory, I love DLC; things like Borderlands DLC campaigns are a great example. Its stuff that they couldn't finish in time, but is a nice bonus, yeah? Extra stuff like that.

Or things like how you can buy cosmetics in TF2, or how you can buy new characters. THAT'S great.

You know what's shit? Things like On disc DLC. THAT is fucking wrong. that is so fucking wrong. DLC should, in principal. be for things that you think are awesome but didn't have time to make for the game. Stuff that you want to be in the game, but you don't have time "right now" to make, but might in the future be able to add them on.

Things that are 100% complete and ready to ship? that's fucking bullshit. So much bullshit.

EA needs to burn in a fire, I hate them so goddamned much.
