The planet Krypton once orbited around a red giant, an older more maturer sun. Kryptonians are just like us when exposed to red sunlight.

Our planet has a young star for a sun and it's solar rays grant superpowers to Kryptonians.

At least thats as far as I understand it. Superman is pretty much solar-powered, his heat-vision alone chugs at his solar-cells the most.

We could use Manley's input for this.

Kryptonians were intensely xenophobic, to the point where Jor-El was pretty much the only one actually interested in space. They used to have a giant space empire, but that was eventually stopped by the Guardians (who also gave Martians their fear of fire).

Also like everypony else is saying, red sun radiation doesn't affect them. It has to be more energetic than that or something.

I think it's the older the star, the least power Kryptonians can draw from it. Kryptons "sun" was a red giant which is millions and millions of years older than our own sun. Our sun is just a baby compared to most stars out there, thus more intense solar energy or something that allow Kryptonians superpowers.

As far as I know there's no explanation for why he can just go out into space away from any yellow stars and still be super.

In fact, most of the time it's more like red sunlight just takes away their powers.
