You're right that I am underplaying Baby Cakes contribution to pony sexuality a bit. You could fairly say we've as much confirmation ponies get pregnant and birth just like people as we could reasonably expect, short of full on rule 34 (which we ain't gonna get, canonically speaking, or the censors would have their heads).

But I will never agree that Mrs. Cake is canonically screwing around behind Mr. Cake's back because it can make complete sense that a pegasi and unicorn can come from two earth ponies if pony genetics really do work that way, and the show is blantently stating they absolutely do. Mr. Cake wasn't nervous in that seen, he was just exhausted from caring for the twins.

Confirmed by the creators or not, I still don't see any real romance. The scenes in question were tacked-on at the end of the series and quite vague.

Y'now... why doesn't somebody just bite the bullet and make a character in a kids show gay already?

I mean, pretty much everybody in the US is okay with homosexuals these days, and the people who have a problem with gay characters are mocked. Just quit pussyfooting around and do it already dickheads.

And I mean full-on gay. "Bisexual" in media to me means "we're too pussy to make a gay character in fear of reprisal from coffin dodgers that will be dead within the next two decades".

Outside of Zecora the magical negro Zebra, I'm not too interested in social commentary in a show targeted towards such a young age. Korra is for an older audience, so it was more acceptable.

>Y'now... why doesn't somebody just bite the bullet and make a character in a kids show gay already?
I know that Disney had a sitcom called Good Luck Charlie which featured a gay couple in one episode near the end of its run. Following that episode's airing, they naturally got conservative groups riled up, but some people also were sending the five year old star of the show death threats and pictures of her being killed.

I suppose it's just a matter of how a lot of shows either don't have plans to introduce a LGBT character, or someone or some people in the production don't feel comfortable taking such a big step, at least not openly having them be gay, most likely the networks since they're the ones funding the show and can censor what's shown, and are the ones who can have the most to lose if things go bad.

>And I mean full-on gay. "Bisexual" in media to me means "we're too pussy to make a gay character in fear of reprisal from coffin dodgers that will be dead within the next two decades".
Bisexual just means that a character swings both ways, and is actually the rarest representation of a LGBT demographic. Seriously, no one thinks bisexual is a watered down version of being gay. Watered down gay is watered down version of gay, like I believe American Dad has a gay couple but they haven't done much that's explicit other than hold hands and say some innuendo despite all the other stuff it could get away with (though that's probably less of the networks interfering and more the writers just thought about showing much).

Because social/political issues have no place in a childrens' cartoon? "Gay rights", "Gay marriage" and other such things are still hot-button issues in the US.

Funny enough, LPS kinda already did this. I can't remember which episode it was, but they strongly hinted at two male characters being attracted to each other.

Dee is noticing a trend here, these shows are only comfortable introducing gay characters when they're at or near the end of the series anyway, what's the worst that can be done to them, cancel the series that's already ended?

Pretty sure the character I'm referring to is in either S1 or S2 of LPS, and LPS is still airing its 3rd season, with a 4th already in production.

Going to ask here: Why?

What would this benefit the show? this isn't a show about society and changing social dynamics or anything and any romantic relationships are very low key and secondary, with spike and rarity probably being the only one with any real focus (and even THAT'S not very focused on).

So... why? what would this benefit the show.
the fact is, I just don't think FIM is the kind of show to need or benefit from such a thing.

A background joke here or there but nothing concrete is where it should stay imo.

No, see, it's the tanukis specifically that have big balls in Japan. It's part of their folklore where they portray some tanuki as monsters, though the portrayal has softened so they give them comical things like big balls, like how they also have folklore about some foxes being demons with nine tails only the tanuki are not as seriously taken.

Eh? I was under the impression that Japanese culture portrays the Tanuki with comically huge balls as a sign of financial prosperity.

According to GaijinGoomba, it goes way back to when gold coins were still being used as currency; Tanuki skins were apparently very useful in the process of creating those coins, and thus Tanukis became associated with wealth.

That could also be part of the reason. Checking the site I read, it also mentions that, how golden balls can also mean testicles, so it creates sort of a pun.

The folklore says that while most yokai were monsters, within the past few centuries, tanuki shed that frightening reputation and became more harmless and represented jovial times and good fortune. So they ended up being depicted with goofy expressions and fat bellies, in addition to the golden balls pun. So it works as both a way to make it goofy and a way of linking it to the idea of prosperity, similarly to what the big belly represents.

my point being that just because another show do it, it doesnt mean ponies have to do it, or even should even care on a pony related manner,

If Korra like to do tortillas with her girlfriend, good for her. but that doesnt have to involve on any way ponies.

The same for the testicles on ponies.

and if you wonder why i said making tortillas, well, a "slang" for lesbians here is "Tortilleras", why?

i guess because of how this sound

All of my this.

Keep the controversy away from the shows that I like.

Sure whatever, hint at a couple, but don't freaking go and say "Oh yeah, this meant that they're totally bi" and bring a world of annoying controversy down upon a good series.

I love the Legend of Korra, and involving it in this just made talking about the show with others annoying cause it's usually the only part about it that gets brought up.

I don't want to see that happen with MLP.

bi? how passe!
WE have a trans

In seriousness this is a show where we had to ask the creator whether ponies reproduced sexually or by budding.
It's a kids show and sexuality has no place in it. I don't get why LGBT advocates have such a hard time understanding that there are places where people's (or pony's) sexuality is simply not brought up.

>> No. 36789692

I think that's the exact problem that we need to get rid of: The association of homosexuality with sex. We can show couples to kids, why not a couple of two men, or two girls? It's not right to think "Oh, two guys, they must be fucking" immediately when you see a gay couple, and that's an image we need to get rid of if we want to move forward in this society.

You can't divorce homosexually from sex because it is a sexuality.
Not unless you want to resort to hinting at it with stereotypes which is worse then not showing it at all.

If you want to show homosexuality you need to treat it as you would any other sexuality, which means we've already gone as far as we can with the same sex nuzzles in H&H

It was in the first half of 2014 while Love God was the latter half. Though Love God, along with most of season 2, has been premiering on Disney XD first, to the point where I think it's Gravity Falls' new home (GF isn't even on Disney Channel's website). So maybe it's different standards.

Exactly, HHD. You know how to add a gay couple? Just make both of them male. It's that fucking simple.
