ITT: we post what we think makes good music. What do you think?

I don't care about what genre the music is. It could be rock, classical, dub, pop, dnb, raggae, a capella, country, etc. etc... I don't care. But there are a few things I DO care about:

First is being original. It could be the coolest beat, the sickest chord structure, and perhaps the most captivating story (for lyrics), but if it's played by everyone else too, then it loses major amounts of novelty and emotion, in fact, I just don't listen to it because I get nothing out of it.

Second is repetitiveness. If it's repetitive, then I don't listen because it gets tiring. Sure a song can use the same melody or chord structure in repetition, but it must have some sort of progression in it's style, the instruments used, the intensity, the layers used, and other such musical texturizations in order to keep it fresh. And the more beautiful the progression, the better the music.

Third is what is written. There are two ways to write music. One is robotically, following simple patterns, preset music theory structures or even (worst of all) the "most popular" musical stylistic choices of the time (just to attempt to crank out money). I HATE robotically written music. The second way to write it is to write it out of feeling, to tell a story with emotion and twists and true drive from the heart, whether it follows music theory or not. Music written from the heart is my favorite kind of music. And trust me, it's pretty easy to sense when something was written just to be written, and something was written because of inspiration.

And fourth and perhaps most important to me, is how it's performed. A song can be written robotically, but if someone puts their heart into playing it, then that can transform the song into a passionate piece of art. The tiny nuances of how a violin is bowed, how a voice twists, creaks, cracks, shifts notes, and fluctuates volume, the soft roll of fingers on piano keys, adding delicate off-timing, the rise and drop in volume and tempo, the small details that go into the composition of digita

Hello to all my friends! I am Tetfima, and I make EDM of unique design. I love to jam and compose all the time, and I even have a bunch of my music on youtube. I'm just really looking for some good old fashion feedback, it makes me feel great to hear others opinions on my craft. If it isn't too much trouble, would you care to take a quick listen and maybe like or comment? Feedback is quite nice to let me as an artist know where I'm succeeding/failing in, I mean it, I'm a glutton for critique! My youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOv7WKHy9whj9Uh8aleeZSw

Thank everypony sooo much!

The Mars Volta fans? What do you think of this music?

Frances the Mute is one of my favorite albums, De-Loused and Amputechture are great, Octahedron and Nocturniquet are alright, and Bedlam can go fuck itself.
